Tulsa's fifth-seeded (West) women's soccer team earned a 1-0 win over fourth-seeded (East) UAB in the Conference USA Championship First Round on Monday evening at Holloway Field in Houston, Texas. With the win, TU advances to the quarterfinals and will face top-seeded (West) Colorado College on Wednesday, Nov. 6th beginning at 1:30 pm. TU moved to 11-6-3 on the season, while UAB concluded the year with an 11-7-2 mark.

"Since last Thursday when we got the win to advance to the tournament, the girls have just been confident," Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. "I think that comes from this senior group who have played in the tournament now three times. They've done a good job of leading the team. We were really loose tonight and we jumped out early, but UAB played with more urgency in the second half and created some chances against us. We played against the clock, kept our composure and held on for the win."

Jordan O'Brien scored the game-winning goal with just 8:16 ticked off the clock as she punched in a free kick taken by Claire Nicholson. This was O'Brien's third goal of the season.

Nicholson led the Golden Hurricane with eight shots, while Alexa Sidorakis came in off the bench and took three attempts. Hayley Harryman logged all 90 minutes between the posts, recorded four saves and earned the shutout.

It was Tulsa's 12th shutout on the season and Harryman's 11th this year, both of which are new school records.

Tulsa had a 15-10 lead in shots, including a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal, but the Blazers had a 3-2 lead in corner kicks.

"The downside of tonight is that we lost one of our seniors, Camille Pelley, to injury," Cussen said. "She has been a great player and a big part of helping to turn around the program these last few years. I am so proud of her and what she has accomplished in her career, and I wish it hadn't ended tonight. I appreciate her work ethic and leadership as she has served as a team captain this year."

Tulsa and Colorado College met earlier this season, as the Tigers earned a 2-0 win at home on October 12th. TU and CC met in last season's Conference USA Championship semifinals, when both teams had the same seed they do now, and the Golden Hurricane advanced to the Championship on penalty kicks, 5-4.
