Ten Home Games Highlight 2009 Tulsa Women's Soccer ScheduleJune 2, 2009
Tulsa, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa 2009 women's soccer schedule features 10 home games, two contests against NCAA Tournament teams from last year, and intrastate rivals Oklahoma and Oral Roberts. The 19 teams on this season's schedule combined for 164 wins last year, averaging 8.6 wins per team. "We are definitely excited about this upcoming season," Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. "The top level teams that we will face in the non-conference season will help prepare us for league play. I am also very pleased with our home schedule, and excited about the opportunity to play these teams in front of our home crowd." Tulsa opens the regular season at home against Louisiana-Lafayette on Aug. 28th at the Hurricane Soccer & Track Stadium. This will be just the third meeting between the two schools, as the Golden Hurricane has a 1-0-1 advantage in the series. TU will then make the quick trip to Norman to face Oklahoma just two days later on Aug. 30th. The Golden Hurricane and Sooners have met just seven times, with OU posting a 5-2 lead in the series, including a win in the last match up back in 2005. Arkansas and Louisiana-Monroe come to town for the Tulsa Invitational on Sept. 3rd and 6th, respectively. UA tallied the most wins for a non-conference opponent last season with 11, but it was Tulsa that took home the 1-0 win last year in Fayetteville. The Golden Hurricane has amassed an 18-8-1 lead in the series against the Razorbacks, and this will be the first meeting with the Warhawks. A pair of games in Albuquerque, New Mexico is up next, as Tulsa faces host New Mexico on Sept. 11th and Cal Sate Northridge on Sept. 13th in the New Mexico Invitational. The Lobos have won three of the four games vs. Tulsa, while this will be the first time TU and the Matadors will face off. Oral Roberts will make the trip across town on Sept. 16th, exactly one year after the two teams played all 110 minutes to a 2-2 tie, giving TU an 11-4-4 lead in the all-time series.
The Golden Hurricane will close out non-conference play at Northwestern State, a team that posted double-digit wins last year, including a 2-0 victory over TU to start the 2008 season. Tulsa will get the toughest league trip in terms of travel out of the way first with a game at UTEP on Sept. 25th and at Colorado College on Sept. 27th. The Golden Hurricane and Miners will be fighting for bragging rights, as the series is now tied 6-6-1, while the Tigers have won eight of the 10 meetings. It was TU, however, that took one from then-27th-ranked Colorado College last season, 1-0. A four-game home stand that spans just nine days will begin against Houston on Oct. 2nd, followed by Rice on Oct. 4th, East Carolina on Oct. 9th and Marshall on Oct. 11th. The Cougars have a 1-0-2 lead in the series with Tulsa, but the Golden Hurricane looks to even it up this season. The Owls and Panthers also have a lead over TU in the series records, while the Golden Hurricane is up 2-1 over the Thundering Herd. Tulsa will take to the road again against UAB on Oct. 16th and at Memphis on Oct. 18th. The Golden Hurricane and Blazers also battled it out for 110 minutes and ended in a 1-1 tie last year, keeping the series advantage with TU, 2-1-1. The Tigers could prove to be the biggest challenge in 2009, as they are the league's reigning regular season and tournament champions, and was one of two teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Memphis also has won three of the four contests with Tulsa. Southern Miss and UCF come in town on Oct. 23rd and 25th, respectively, before the Golden Hurricane closes out the regular season at SMU on Oct. 29th. Tulsa has won all three meetings with the Golden Eagles, while the Knights, which advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year, have a 3-0-1 advantage over Tulsa. TU also closed out the season against SMU last season, claiming a 2-1 victory in Tulsa. The Conference USA Championship will take place on Nov. 5th through 8th, but a site will be determined at a later date. 2009 Tulsa Women's Soccer Schedule |
