Tulsa Women's Soccer Team Ranked Seventh in American Preseason Coaches Poll
Aug. 18, 2014
Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Tulsa women's soccer team was picked seventh in the 2014 American Athletic Conference preseason poll, as voted on by the league's coaches.
"We are excited about going into a new conference, one that will be one of the strongest in the nation," Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. "The Bennett rankings have the league ranked seventh out of 32 conferences that sponsor women's soccer. Being seventh in the league doesn't diminish our excitement, but just gives us something to prove, but we know from top to bottom this will be a tough conference and there won't be any easy games. We are very excited to start the regular season later this week and continue to get better as we head into league play."
UCF was the unanimous choice as the preseason favorite after winning the regular season and tournament title a year ago. UConn and Memphis were ranked second and third, while USF, SMU, Cincinnati, Tulsa, East Carolina, Temple and Houston round out the list.
The Golden Hurricane returns 14 letterwinners, including five starters, and three squad members from a year ago, and welcomes 10 newcomers to the roster. Tulsa had double-digit wins (11), a winning record and advanced to the Conference USA Championship all for the third-straight year, and set two new school records for shutouts in a season (12) and shutouts by a single goalkeeper (Hayley Harryman, 11) last year.
TU will begin the season on August 22nd against Abilene Christian. Game time is set for 7:30 pm at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.
