Irving, Texas - Tulsa women's soccer player Katie Bykowski has been named as the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, as announced today by the league office. This was Bykowski's second career honor, the fifth for TU in league history and the first of the season.

"I think the game was really positive," Bykowski said. "We worked really hard during preseason, so for us to get three goals and the shutout shows we've started the season out right, and hopefully we will continue to be successful. I think the award is a good representation of TU women's soccer and how far we've come. Even though the award was given to me, it really shows how hard our defense works, and it means a lot to me to have our school recognized."

Bykowski logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up her 20th career shutout as Tulsa defeated Weber State, 3-0, in Friday's season opener. She recorded three saves in the contest for 250 in her career. Bykowski already owns the school record for goalkeeper saves and goals-against average (1.16), and is second in goalkeeper shutouts.
