TU Women's Soccer Team To Open 2000 Season At Oklahoma Shootout
Aug. 24, 2000 Tulsa, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa women's soccer team will open the 2000 season this Friday at 8:00 p.m. against Oklahoma at the inaugural AT&T Wireless Soccer Challenge in Edmond. Two days later, the Hurricane faces Oklahoma State at 5:00 p.m. TU will look to secure state bragging rights with victories against both OU and OSU. The Hurricane and Sooners have met on two previous occasions. Tulsa downed Oklahoma, 3-0, in Norman during the 1997 season, while OU topped TU, 6-2, in the 1998 season opener. Tulsa and Oklahoma State have faced each other just one time, which was TU's inaugural season of women's soccer in 1987. In that game, the Hurricane blanked the Cowgirls, 5-0, for its third win of the season. Current OSU Head Coach Karen Hancock was a member of the `87 team and a four-year letterwinner at Tulsa from 1987-90.
The Hurricane returns 13 letterwinners, including nine starters, from last year's 8-10 team. TU opens the 2000 campaign with four straight road games before its home opener against Southwest Missouri State on Sunday, September 10 at 12:00 p.m.
