Aug. 28, 2000
Tulsa, Oklahoma - University of Tulsa sophomore forward Julie Twellman has been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week for August 21-27.
Twellman, a native of Columbia, Mo., led Tulsa to back-to-back wins over Oklahoma and Oklahoma State this past weekend at the AT&T Wireless Shootout in Edmond, Okla. In two games, she netted two goals and collected two assists for six points. Tulsa captured the team title, and Twellman was named tournament MVP.
Tulsa not only swept the tournament field, but the all-tournament team as well. Including Twellman, a total of six Hurricane players received all-tournament team honors. Senior Kelly Noonan received the Offensive Player award and was named to the all-tournament team as well. Other Tulsa selections included freshman goalkeeper Pam Devore, who recorded shutouts in her first two collegiate appearances, juniors Kara Heer and Melissa McCormick and senior Julie Davidson.
In the first game against OU, Twellman scored her first goal of the season at the 67:23 minute mark to give Tulsa a 2-0 lead, which it would not relinquish.
In the second game against Oklahoma State, Twellman came up big for the Hurricane. In just over six minutes during the second half against OSU, she scored one goal and earned two assists in helping the Hurricane to a decisive 5-0 win over Oklahoma State.
