Linda Garza is beginning her first season with The University of Tulsa. In addition to day-to-day operations, one of Garza's main responsibilities with the Golden Hurricane is working with the outfielders.
Garza comes to TU after spending two seasons as an assistant at Arkansas. While with the Lady'Backs worked with the outfielders, emphasizing footwork, fielding and throwing. She was also a first base coach, helping the runners with mechanics and decision-making. Additionally she is responsible for scheduling, conditioning, camps, academics, travel and equipment for the Lady Razorbacks.
Graduating with a bachelor's degree in school health education from UNLV, Garza was a star infielder for the Rebels from 1998-2001, starting the last 155 games of her career. A defensive wizard at second base, Garza was also an offensive presence at the plate. A .262 career hitter, she laid down an amazing 45 sacrifice hits in four years, just five short of the school record.
Garza was also a member of the coaching staff of the Clovis Rockets Gold and Clovis Rockets 18&under club teams while at UNLV.
Prior to her senior season, Garza moved to third base and earned a spot on the All-Mountain West Conference team after starting all 56 games and leading the Rebels in triples (2), RBI (35) and sacrifice hits (10). The conference also honored the scholar athlete for her work in the classroom, selecting her to the Academic All-Mountain West Conference team for the second straight year.
A native of Fresno, Calif., Garza was a two-sport star and honor student at Hoover High School, lettering a total of seven times in both softball and basketball. She led the Patriots to the league playoffs every year and was selected the team's Most Valuable Player in her senior season.
