ATLANTA, Ga. - The University of Tulsa softball team split the doubleheader against Georgia Tech as No. 21 Tulsa defeated Georgia Tech 11-3 in game one and TU fell to GT 2-1 in game two at Newborn Field on Saturday.

Second baseman Shelby Blanton and shortstop Jill Barrett led TU (12-2) with three hits each for both games, while Aimee Creger pitcher her fourth complete game of the season, pitching 7.0 innings, giving up seven hits and three runs in game one and Caitlin Sill and Bailey Erwin combined pitched 7.0 innings, giving up six hits and two runs.

In game one, Tulsa jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Yellow Jackets (8-2) cut TU's lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the third inning. Behind both of Barrett and Erica Sampson's two-run home run, Tulsa extended its lead to 8-2 and added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning for a 11-2 lead, while the Yellow Jackets added a run to cut TU's lead 11-3.

In game two, Georgia Tech led off the game with a solo home run in the top of the first inning and added another run in the top of the third inning for a 2-0 lead. Tulsa cut the lead in half as Haley Henshaw singled home Catherine Horner in the bottom of the third inning. The score would stay the same as Tulsa had opportunities late in the game to tie the score or take the lead, including leaving the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth inning.

No. 21 Tulsa 11, Georgia Tech 3 (Game One) Creger (5-0) pitched her fourth complete game this season as she pitched 7.0 innings, giving up seven hits, three runs with six strikeouts.

Shortstop Jill Barrett led TU at the plate going 3-for-5 with a run scored and two RBIs, while second baseman Shelby Blanton went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Barrett is batting 6-for-8 in her last two games.

The top four hitters for Tulsa went 7-for-18 (.389) with five runs scored and six RBIs.

Barrett lead off the game with a single, followed by Blanton's single to move Barrett to second. After a fielder's choice that threw out Barrett at third and a strikeout, first baseman Julie Kernen walked to load the bases with two outs.

Center fielder Cierra Hughes doubled the first two runs of the game to left center and brought home left fielder Erica Sampson and Blanton.

Catcher Catherine Horner walked to load the bases with two outs and designated hitter Maggie Withee reached on base by an error by the shortstop to bring home Hughes and Kernen for a 4-0 TU lead.

Tulsa held the 4-0 lead until the bottom of the third inning, when Georgia Tech added two runs to cut TU's lead 4-2.

The first three Yellow Jackets reached on base by a single to load the bases with no outs. After a strikeout, Karly Fullem doubled two runs home to leave runners at second and third base with one out.

After a walk to load the bases with one out, Creger got a foul out to third base, followed by a fly out to right field to end the Yellow Jackets threat.

The Golden Hurricane extended its led to 6-2 in the top of the fourth inning after a Barrett two run home run to right field that brought home Maggie Withee, who reached on base after a walk. Barrett's two RBI's gives her 87 career RBIs, which ties her for ninth most in school history.

Tulsa held on to a 6-2 lead until the top of the sixth inning as the Golden Hurricane added two runs for an 8-2 lead.

Sampson belted a home run to left field and drove home Blanton, who reached on error by the shortstop with two outs in the inning.

Tulsa added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning to take an 11-2 lead. After a groundout to lead the inning, Hughes walked and advanced to second after another groundout. Kaitlin Allen, who pinched hit for Maggie Withee, singled home Hughes for a 9-2 TU lead.

Right fielder Haley Henshaw singled to move Allen to second base and a bunt single by Barrett loaded the bases with two outs. Blanton singled through the right side to bring home Henshaw and Allen to give Tulsa an 11-2 lead.

Georgia Tech added a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut TU's lead to 11-3. The Yellow Jackets had runners on second and third base with one out and Katie Johnsky hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the last run of the game.

Kanani Cabrales (2-2) went the distance for the Yellow Jackets pitching 7.0 innings, giving up 10 hits and 11 runs, seven earned runs, with five walks and four strikeouts. Ashley Thomas Hayley Downs and Karly Fullem each went 2-for-4 at the plate for Georgia Tech.

Georgia Tech 2, No. 21 Tulsa 1 (Game Two) Caitlin Sill (3-2) pitched 4.0 innings giving up two runs on five hits, while Bailey Erwin finished the game with 3.0 innings pitched giving up one hit with one strikeout.

Second baseman Shelby Blanton, left fielder Erica Sampson and Haley Henshaw had the three hits for the Golden Hurricane.

Georgia Tech led off the game with a solo home run to left field from Ashley Thomas to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead.

The Yellow Jackets added another run in the top of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead before Tulsa got on the board in the bottom of the third inning.

After catcher Catherine Horner's walk to lead the winning, third baseman Maggie Withee successfully bunted Horner to second and the next batter right fielder Haley Henshaw singled home Horner to cut GT's lead to 2-1.

The Golden Hurricane had an opportunity to tie the score or take the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning as TU left the bases loaded.

After a groundout to lead the inning, center fielder Cierra Hughes and Horner walked and Maggie Withee successful bunted Hughes and Horner to third and second base. Henshaw walked to load the bases with two outs, but second baseman Jill Barrett popped up to the shortstop to end the inning.

Tulsa started off the bottom of the sixth inning with second baseman Shelby Blanton and left fielder Erica Sampson singled to put runners on first and second with no outs. Designated hitter Jill Roye fouled out to third for the first out and a double play ended TU's threat.

Kylie Kleinschmidt (6-0) went the distance for the Yellow Jackets as she pitched 7.0 innings, scattering three hits and gave up one run with six walks and two strikeouts.

At the plate, Courtney Ziese led GT with a 2-for-3 performance and Thomas scored both runs for the Yellow Jackets.

The Golden Hurricane faces Georgia State on Sunday at 9 a.m. before coming home for the first time this season from Feb. 28-March 2 for the Tulsa Tournament.
