ARLINGTON, Texas - Eight players recorded hits, led by Aimee Creger's two hits and an RBI, and Lauren Menke's two RBI, as the Tulsa softball team defeated Creighton, 5-3, to open the UT Arlington Classic Friday afternoon at Allan Saxe Field.

The Golden Hurricane (6-5) scored one run in the first and two runs in the second inning, and added two more important insurance runs in the fifth inning to defeat the Bluejays. Sophomore Lacey Middlebrooks (3-1) got the win for TU, pitching a complete game and allowing five hits, with six strikeouts and five walks.

Sophomore center fielder Caitlin Everett led off the game with a walk, stole second base, and scored two batters later when sophomore shortstop Samantha Cobb reached on an error by the pitcher.

In the second inning, sophomore left fielder Keri Leach drew a one-out walk, and stole second, scoring on a base hit up the middle by the freshman designated player Creger. Two batters later, Creger scored from third base on an infield single to shortstop by Everett. She had moved to second on a throw trying to get Leach at home, and went to third on a groundout to short.

After two scoreless innings, the Golden Hurricane added what proved to be two crucial insurance runs in the fifth inning. Freshman third baseman Jill Barrett led off the inning with a single to short, and junior second baseman Skylar Swanson doubled down the right field line. The senior right fielder Menke then singled to left center scoring both Barrett and freshman Shelby Blanton, who was pinch-running for Swanson.

Middlebrooks allowed just two hits through six innings, but had to hold off a late charge by Creighton in the bottom of the seventh.

The Bluejays got three infield singles in the inning with a pair of walks to score three runs. After a leadoff single, Creighton followed with a one-out base hit to short, two walks, and a single to second. Middlebrooks got a run-scoring groundout and a ground ball to first base to close out the game.
