Softball Stays Perfect In Florida

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The University of Tulsa softball team improved to 4-0 at the FAU "Strike Out Cancer" Tournament with two wins Saturday night at the FAU Softball Complex.
The Golden Hurricane (9-2) started the day with an 11-6 extra-innings victory over Florida A&M, and the team finished with a 6-5 triumph over host Florida Atlantic.
Tulsa needed a five-run eighth inning to finish off the Rattlers after FAMU scored four runs in the fifth. The game-winning tally was scored by senior right fielder Jessica Stoelke on a sacrifice fly from sophomore left fielder Shelby Blanton. TU was able to add four insurance runs in the frame.
Junior centerfielder Caitlin Everett and sophomore third baseman Jill Barrett led TU against the Rattlers, as both went 3-for-5 and scored twice. Senior second baseman Skylar Swanson blasted a two-run homer in the fourth inning as part of her five-RBI game. She also scored two of Tulsa's 11 runs.
Sophomore pitcher Kalynn Schrock allowed six runs (two earned) off six hits in 5.0 innings of work. She took a no-decision after striking out six and walking six.
Sophomore Aimee Creger threw the final three frames and did not allow a hit in the winning performance. She struck out six and walked just two.
Tulsa 6, Florida Atlantic 5
Tulsa was able to rally in the seventh, scoring two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Following a double from Barrett and a single from junior shortstop Samantha Cobb, Swanson recorded a walk-off double to take the win from the host Owls.
Barrett was a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate, and she scored three runs. Cobb was 3-for-4, and she drove home three runs and scored twice.
Schrock pitched a complete game and earned the win after allowing five runs on nine hits. She struck out five and walked four.
The Golden Hurricane will look to end the weekend with an unblemished 5-0 mark when the team faces Michigan State at 10 a.m. Feb. 26.
