TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa softball team totaled 15 runs on 20 hits in two wins Friday, defeating North Texas, 7-2, and Austin Peay, 8-0, in the Hyatt Downtown Tulsa Tournament at the Collins Family Softball Complex.

The Golden Hurricane (11-3) was balanced in the first game against North Texas, as four players had four hits and five different players drove in a run. Junior Lacey Middlebrooks (4-1) got the complete-game win against the Mean Green (6-9).

In the final game of the day, TU got a shutout from sophomore Kalynn Schrock (3-1) and four RBI from senior Skylar Swanson to beat the Lady Govs (5-5) in five innings.

"I thought both pitchers (Middlebrooks and Schrock) got out of some tough jams and really limited some big possible innings," Tulsa head coach John Bargfeldt said. "That was one key. In that first game, they tied us up and we answered back right away. I thought that was important for our hitters to do that. It was good to put some runs right back on the board and be able to go back out in the field and relax. She (Middlebrooks) finished out the game really well.

"It was good to see Kalynn go out and throw the ball a lot better. It was a good confidence builder. Yes, we would have liked to play better in some areas, but the important thing to take away is the positives: two well-pitched games and two games where we hit the ball really well. Then, in each game, there were situations in which we did not allow really big innings to occur, which could have happened. So, I was pleased with that."

Tulsa scored two runs in the first inning against Austin Peay, when the senior first baseman Swanson singled home junior center fielder Caitlin Everett and junior shortstop Samantha Cobb. Everett led off the inning with a walk, and Cobb singled through the left side.

The Hurricane added four more runs in the second inning with three doubles and a pair of singles. Sophomore left fielder Cierra Hughes led off the frame with a single, followed by an RBI double from Everett. Sophomore third baseman Jill Barrett singled and Cobb doubled to score Everett. Swanson's single down the left field line capped the run of five straight hits and drove home Barrett and Cobb to make the score 6-0.

After a pair of scoreless frames, TU put two more runs on the board in the fourth inning to take an 8-0 lead. Swanson drew a two-out walk and Middlebrooks doubled to shallow left center. A throwing error allowed Swanson to score and Middlebrooks to move up to third base. Sophomore second baseman Shelby Blanton singled to right, scoring Swanson for the final run.

Shrock scattered five hits and struck out four with just one walk across five innings. She and the Hurricane defense held strong with runners in scoring position in each inning - all with fewer than two outs - and did not allow Austin Peay to score.

Tulsa 7, North Texas 2

Tulsa scored five runs over the fourth and fifth innings to defeat North Texas, 7-2, Friday at the Hyatt Downtown Tulsa Tournament.

Four players got two hits apiece, as the Golden Hurricane totaled 10 hits in the game, as five different players drove in a run for TU. Lacey Middlebrooks (4-1) earned the win for the Hurricane.
