TULSA, Okla. - Tulsa scored five runs over the fourth and fifth innings to defeat North Texas, 7-2, Friday at the Hyatt Downtown Tulsa Tournament at the Collins Family Softball Complex.

Four players got two hits apiece, as the Golden Hurricane (10-3) totaled 10 hits in the game, as five different players drove in a run for TU. Lacey Middlebrooks (4-1) earned the win for the Hurricane.

Tulsa took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when junior center fielder Caitlin Everett led off with a single, stole second, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on an RBI ground out by junior shortstop Samantha Cobb.

The Hurricane picked up a second run in the third inning when senior second baseman Skylar Swanson singled home Everett, who once again led off the inning with a base hit.

After being held to one baserunner in the first three innings, North Texas scored two runs in the fourth inning on a two-run single by catcher Caitlin Grimes.

"They tied us up and we answered back right away," Tulsa head coach John Bargfeldt said. "I thought that was important for our hitters to do that. It was good to put some runs right back on the board and be able to go back out in the field and relax. She (Middlebrooks) finished out the game really well."

Tulsa responded immediately with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Senior right fielder Jessica Stoelke was hit by a pitch, and moved around to score on a bunt single by sophomore third baseman Jill Barrett. Everett, who reached on a base hit, scored on a throwing error by the pitcher on a ball off the bat of Cobb to make the score 5-2.

The Golden Hurricane capped the scoring with two more runs in the fifth inning. Stoelke hit a sacrifice fly to score Middlebrooks, who doubled. Sophomore left fielder Shelby Blanton doubled home freshman first baseman Julie Kernen, who reached on a single.

Tickets are $5.00 general admission and can be purchased at the gate. Youth softball girls are admitted FREE when wearing their team jersey/uniform.
