ARLINGTON, Texas - The 19th-ranked Tulsa softball team advanced to the finals of the UT Arlington Classic with a 5-1 victory over UTA Saturday at Allan Saxe Field.

The Golden Hurricane (14-5) will play Lamar at noon Sunday in the tournament championship game. TU fell to Creighton, 4-3, in eight innings in the first game on Saturday.

Junior Aimee Creger (8-1) posted nine strikeouts to beat the Mavericks for the second time this weekend. She pitched TU to a 5-1 win over UTA on Friday. Senior shortstop Samantha Cobb hit her third home run of the season to put Tulsa ahead 1-0 in the third inning. Creger, junior third baseman Jill Barrett and sophomore first baseman Julie Kernen also drove in runs for the Hurricane.

TU added two more runs in the fourth, one of those on an RBI fielder's choice by Creger that scored junior right fielder Haley Henshaw. Henshaw led off the inning with a double and Kernen walked. The runners moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt, and Kernen followed Henshaw home on a throwing error by the pitcher.

Senior designated player Lacey Middlebrooks hit a one-out double in the fifth inning and scored on a single to left center by Kernen.

The Mavericks scored in the top of the sixth when catcher Rachel Forshaw singled home third baseman Meagan Michelle, who reached on a one-out double.

The Hurricane got the run back in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Barrett that plated senior center fielder Caitlin Everett, who led off the inning with a single, stole second, and move to third on an error.

In the first game of the day, Tulsa took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh, but Creighton hit a two-run home run to force extra innings and won under International Tiebreaker rules in the eighth. Middlebrooks (5-2) struck out nine, and took the loss for TU.

Creighton scored the first run of the game in the second inning on an RBI single by pinch hitter Blake Ringle that scored pinch runner Cassie Sharon.

Tulsa answered with a run in the top of the third when Everett led off with a double and scored on a base hit by Henshaw.

The Hurricane took the lead with another run in the top of the fourth when Barrett doubled home senior catcher Cassidy Bowen, who drew a one-out walk. Middlebrooks gave TU its third run with a solo home run in the top of the seventh - her third homer of the season.

The Bluejays, however, tied the score in the bottom of the inning with a two-out, two-run homer by shortstop Liz Dike. Catcher Bri Lingl hit an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to give Creighton the win.
