March 9, 2011
NORMAN, Okla. - The Tulsa softball team dropped its midweek game at No. 10 Oklahoma, 9-0, in five innings Wednesday evening at the OU Softball Complex. Sophomore shortstop Samantha Cobb, senior right fielder Lauren Menke and sophomore catcher each had hits for the Golden Hurricane, which fell to 14-7 on the season. Sophomore Lacey Middlebrooks (5-2) took the loss for TU. Tulsa opens Conference USA play at home this weekend against Marshall. The Hurricane and Thundering Herd play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m., followed by a single game Sunday at noon. Oklahoma improved to 18-5 on the season and Keilani Ricketts (10-2) earned the win for the Sooners. The Golden Hurricane tallied three hits, but had three errors in the ballgame. TU had runners on first and second with one out in the fifth inning, but a pair of strikeouts prevented the Hurricane from pushing any runs across the plate. The Sooners did most of their damage in an eight-run second inning. It was only the second time TU gave up more than three runs in a single inning this season. OU scored its final run in the third frame. For all Tulsa softball news and information, visit www.TulsaHurricane.com.
