ORLANDO, Fla. - Skylar Swanson and Julie Kernen each drove in a run to lead the Tulsa softball team to a 2-1 series-clinching victory at UCF Sunday at the UCF Softball Complex.

Lacey Middlebrooks (6-2) pitched 6.0 innings, allowing just two hits and an unearned run to pick up the win for the Golden Hurricane (16-5, 2-1 C-USA). Kalynn Schrock shut the door in the seventh inning to earn her first save of the season. Mackenzie Audas took the loss for UCF (16-9, 1-2 C-USA).

"I was very pleased with the outcome, considering how tough it is to win here, especially when they have a good pitcher," Tulsa Head Coach John Bargfeldt said. "I was pleased to see the team bounce back after a tough day yesterday. We had more opportunities today and cashed in on them. I was very pleased with the way Lacey and Kalynn pitched."

UCF scored in the bottom of the first inning when shortstop Natalie Land, who led off with a single, crossed the plate on a passed ball.

Tulsa was held scoreless until the fifth inning when Caitlin Everett scored on a sacrifice squeeze bunt by Swanson. Everett led off the inning with a single up the middle, stole second, and was sacrificed to third base.

The Hurricane took the lead in the sixth when Kernen's single drove home Jessica Stoelke, who hit a one-out triple.

UCF threatened with runners in scoring position in three innings after the first, but Middlebrooks shut them down each time, getting a strikeout and a pair of ground outs.

The Golden Hurricane plays at Jacksonville at 4 p.m. Monday.

Tickets to TU home softball games are $5.00 general admission and can be purchased at the gate. Youth softball girls are admitted FREE when wearing their team jersey/uniform.
