TULSA, Okla. - Skylar Swanson hit a three-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to lead Tulsa past East Carolina, 5-2, in game one of the doubleheader Saturday afternoon at the Collins Family Softball Complex.

Lacey Middlebrooks (7-2) pitched all 10.0 innings to earn the win for the Golden Hurricane (17-6, 3-1 C-USA). Sarah Christian (8-9) also went the distance and took the loss for the Pirates (10-15, 0-1 C-USA).

"I thought Lacey had a gutsy performance out there," Tulsa Head Coach John Bargfeldt said. "She just made on mistake on that home run. But, she gave a gutsy performance, keeping us there until we could figure it out and get some runs across. The hitters took a long time to adjust to their pitcher. A few of them did, and that seemed to be when we were scoring runs.

"That's the type of game you usually run into in conference play. One of the three games is usually a nail-biter. It shows a lot of character when you hang in there and find a way to win."

Tulsa took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third when Caitlin Everett scored on a ground out by Samantha Cobb. Everett was 3-for-5 and scored three runs in the game, while Cobb had a pair of hits and scored once.

East Carolina tied the score in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by right fielder Jordan Lewis that scored third baseman Alex Fieldhouse, who led off the inning with a single.

The Hurricane took the lead again with a run in the fifth inning on an RBI single by third baseman Jill Barrett. The base hit scored Everett, who reached on a two-out double.

ECU knotted the score again, at 2-2, in the sixth when first baseman Priscilla Velasquez hit a solo home run to left field.

The teams remained tied through the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, before Swanson's towering shot in the 10th. Everett led off the final frame with a single, followed by a sacrifice bunt by Barrett and an intentional walk to Cobb to set up Swanson, who crushed the first pitch she saw to dead center, giving Tulsa the win.

Tickets to TU home softball games are $5.00 general admission and can be purchased at the gate. Youth softball girls are admitted FREE when wearing their team jersey/uniform.
