TULSA, Okla. - Junior shortstop Samantha Cobb went 3-for-3 with two home runs and four RBI, but it wasn't enough as Tulsa fell to Memphis, 7-6, in a rain-delayed contest Saturday afternoon at the Collins Family Softball Complex.

The Golden Hurricane, which clinched the series with two wins Saturday, fell to 26-8 overall and 10-2 in C-USA play. The Tigers improved to 12-29 overall and 3-12 in C-USA play. TU out-hit Memphis 9-4, but committed three errors in the ballgame.

Starter Aimee Creger (13-3) struck out six batters, and allowed two hits, five runs, four earned runs and four walks in 4.1 innings, and absorbed the loss. Memphis starter Jordan Richwood (4-8) pitched 4.2 innings, allowing eight hits and six earned runs with a pair of strikeouts, and earned the win. Ellen Roberts pitched the final 2.1 innings and picked up her second save of the season for the Tigers (12-29, 3-12 C-USA).

The top of the batting order did most of the damage for Tulsa, as the first four hitters in the lineup tallied six hits and five runs in the game.

The game was halted for a one hour, 25 minute rain delay in the top of the fifth inning. The score was tied, 4-4, at the time and Memphis had a runner on second base. Following the delay, the Tigers used two of its four hits - a single and a double - and a walk to take a 7-4 lead.

Tulsa responded by getting two runs back in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single to cut the deficit to 7-6. Left fielder Cierra Hughes and center fielder Caitlin Everett led off with back-to-back base hits. Hughes stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Barrett. Cobb doubled, and Swanson singled through the left side, scoring Everett from third.

The Hurricane put two runners on base in the both the sixth and seventh innings, but could not pull out it second final-at-bat win of the series.

Middlebrooks, who entered in relief of Creger after the rain delay, struck out two batters and allowed one earned run in the final 2.2 innings. She shut down the Tigers in the final two frames, pitching around a runners-on-second-and-third jam in the seventh, to keep TU alive.

The Golden Hurricane started the scoring with Cobb's first homer, a solo shot to left field, in the top of the first inning.

Memphis took a 4-1 lead in the top of the third inning with a squeeze bunt and a three-run home run. Second baseman Alyssa Palmieri was hit by a pitch and center fielder Kamri Chester reached on a two-base error. Shortstop Morgan Mosby sacrificed Palmieri home, and following a walk, designated player Ellen Roberts hit a three-run home run to left center field.

The Hurricane answered immediately with three runs in the bottom of the third to knot the score at three apiece. Catcher Cassidy Bowen led off the inning with a walk, and following a pair of fielder's choice ground outs, third baseman Jill Barrett reached on a bunt single and Cobb followed with her second dinger of the game - a three-run blast down the left field line.

The Golden Hurricane plays at Missouri State at 5 p.m. Wednesday, before hitting the road for a C-USA series at Marshall April 14-15.

Tickets to TU home softball games are $5.00 general admission and can be purchased at the gate. Youth softball girls are admitted FREE when wearing their team jersey/uniform.
