TULSA, Okla. - Skylar Swanson drove in two runs and Caitlin Everett scored twice to lead Tulsa to a 4-2 win over UTEP in game one of Saturday's doubleheader at the Collins Family Softball Complex.

Lacey Middlebrooks (16-4) earned the complete-game win for the Golden Hurricane (34-11, 15-4 C-USA), while Colleen Hohman (5-17) took the complete-game loss for the Miners (14-34, 3-19 C-USA). TU scored four runs on three hits, but drew nine walks, while UTEP scored two runs on three hits, committed two errors and drew seven walks.

UTEP scored first when Camilla Carrera, who leads the nation with 29 home runs, homered to left center field with two outs in the first inning. That run would be all the Miners would score until the seventh inning.

Tulsa responded to tie the score in the bottom of the first. TU drew four walks and plated a run, as Middlebrooks drew the RBI base on balls, scoring Everett.

The Hurricane took a 4-1 lead with three runs in the second inning. Catcher Cassidy Bowen led off with a walk and Everett drew a one-out walk, followed by third baseman Jill Barrett reaching on a dropped throw at first base. Swanson blooped a two-out single into right field, scoring Bowen and Everett, and booted ball by the right fielder allowed Barrett to cross the plate.

Both pitchers settled in and prevented any more runs for the next four innings.

The Miners drew a pair of two-out walks in the seventh and Carrera scored on a single to the left field fence by first baseman Charissa Ballesteros to cut the lead to 4-2. A fly out to left center closed out the game.

UTEP's home run in the first inning was the first run scored by the Miners against Tulsa since May 1, 2010 - the second inning of the second game of the three-game series in Tulsa. The Hurricane had shut out UTEP in four straight games, and the scoreless span lasted 30.1 innings.

Barrett was held hitless in the game - though she drew a walk and scored a run - ending her 25-game hit streak. It was only her fifth hitless game of the season, and she has recorded hits in 37 of her last 39 contests.

Tickets to TU home softball games are $5.00 general admission and can be purchased at the gate. Youth softball girls are admitted FREE when wearing their team jersey/uniform.
