TULSA HEAD COACH JOHN BARGFELDT
"Whenever you go into the first game of a tournament like this, everybody is a little bit anxious, but I thought we came out and put some nice swings on the ball. For a team that only ended up with six hits, I thought we ended up with a lot better contact than that. Aimee threw a great game. When you have a pitcher that keeps going out there and throwing zeroes, relax you a little bit. I thought it was important to get on the scoreboard first."
On Creger's pitching performance
"She's just been doing this all year for us. She's been a dominant pitcher. I'd say in most of her games, she's getting double-digit strikeouts. When you're getting that many outs on strikeouts, it relaxes your defense a little bit. They don't have to field as many. Her ball was moving really well in the zone today. It was tough to square her up today."
On what Tulsa needs to carry over into the semifinals
"I think defensively, of the balls that were put in play - there were a couple of balls that were hit sharply - our infielders were just right on them. Jill (Barrett) made a couple of quick stabs and Sammy (Cobb) made a nice play on a couple of those speed plays. That's what we preach. We talk about four phases - that's defense, running the bases, pitching and hitting. I thought we were on our game in all four of those phases."
On what Tulsa needs to do against Houston Friday
"We lost two walkoffs to them. We took a 3-1 lead in the first game into the seventh, and lost on a walkoff. Then, we lost a 3-2 game on a walkoff, and then came back and won 2-0. We know from playing Houston the last few years, it's just going to be who executes on that day. We have to go into that game and do what we do, focus on what we can control and go out there and play our game.
TULSA JUNIOR PITCHER AIMEE CREGER
On earning the first win in the tournament
On going into cruise control, getting better as the game wore on
"It's definitely a great thing to win the first game, especially against a good team like UCF. It gives us momentum going into tomorrow's game against Houston. I know they want revenge against us (from 2012 C-USA semifinals). We still want to beat them, and being on our home field gives us a great advantage."
"A lot of the time I throw better the longer I throw. My coach always tells me to throw a bunch before the game, so I'm into my groove after the first or second inning. I think that one hit was an 0-2 pitch and I threw it a little closer than I should have. That woke me up a little bit and I tried to push the ball down a little bit more."
On preparing to face Houston, given emotional games in recent history
"I know they're a good team and anything can happen. We just have to make sure we come out here and play our `A' game and play as a team, and hope for the best. We just have to make the small plays. I think the big plays will happen for us, since we have good players on both sides (of the field)."
