Tulsa Falls To Memphis in Opening Game of C-USA Championship
May 10, 2007
Orlando, Fla. - The University of Tulsa softball team started the game well, just could not finish the contest as well. Memphis scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to cap a 2-1 come-from-behind victory in the opening game of the Conference USA Championship presented by Coca-Cola in Orlando, Fla.
Freshman Lauren Lindsay led off TU's first inning with a home run to left centerfield on her second pitch. Sophomore Katie Lee kept the Tigers at bay in the circle for the first six innings. Lee did not allow a hit until the fourth inning.
In the seventh, Leigh Rowan led off the top half with a 12-pitch at-bat that led to a walk. A throwing error on a sacrifice bunt attempt allowed Rowan to advance to third base. After a ground out to third base, the Tigers had a pair of runners in scoring position. Rowan tied the game on a wild pitch, while pinch runner Christi Morrison scored the go ahead run on a suicide squeeze.
The win was the first for the Tigers in its series with the Golden Hurricane. It was also the ninth consecutive one-run game for Memphis. Tulsa was held to one hit for only the third time this season.
Tulsa will play in an elimination contest on Friday morning at 9 a.m. against the loser of the fourth game on Thursday.
