BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Skylar Swanson went 3-for-3 with four RBI and Aimee Creger pitched a complete-game shutout to lead Tulsa to a 6-0 win over Southern Miss in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Conference USA Championship Thursday afternoon at UAB Softball Field.

The Golden Hurricane (39-12) advances to the semifinals of the C-USA Championship, and will play Houston at 2 p.m. Friday.

Swanson hit her eighth home run of the season, and added an RBI single and a sacrifice fly. With four RBI in the game, Swanson tied the TU single season record with 53 RBI, matching Samantha Cobb's total from 2010. Cobb was 3-for-4 Thursday and scored a run.

Creger (18-5) tossed her second straight shutout, allowing just five hits and two walks in the game. Southern Miss starter Beth Dietrich (7-16) allowed two runs on four hits in 2.0 innings and took the loss for the Golden Eagles (13-34). Courtney Ramos pitched the final 4.0 innings in relief for USM.

"I thought we played really well in the second game on Saturday and then Sunday, and I told our players the challenge was to continue that roll," Tulsa Head Coach John Bargfeldt said. "When you look at all the phases of the game, I thought we played a really clean game. This team can be awfully tough when they get great defense and pitching, get the timely hitting going, and run the bases aggressively. That's what I saw out there."

Tulsa scored a run in each of the first two innings, and added two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings.

Jill Barrett drew a one-out walk in the first inning, moved to second on a base hit by Cobb and scored on Swanson's single up the middle. Jessica Stoelke led off the second with a walk and moved around to score on Everett's base hit to left to give TU a 2-0 lead.

Creger cruised through the first three innings, allowing just one hit, and struck out four straight batters in the second and third frames.

Southern Miss' biggest threat came in the fourth inning when put runners on second and third in with a pair of hits by Caroline Walker and Brittany Lilly, and a throwing error. Creger, however, struck out the next batter to end the inning. Walker and Lilly combined for four of USM's five hits in the game.

Cobb singled to lead off the fifth inning and Swanson launched her ninth homer of the season to left field to extend the Hurricane lead to 4-0.

Julie Kernen ripped a home run to left to lead off the sixth inning. It was the first career home run for the freshman first baseman. Barrett followed with a one-out single to left and Cobb doubled to left field. Barrett scored on Swanson's sacrifice fly to right to make the score 6-0.
