Softball Plays at Texas Invitational Feb. 21, 2013
TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa softball team travels to Austin, Texas, this weekend for the Texas Invitational hosted by No. 6 Texas, where it will also face Lamar and Utah State at Red & Charline McCombs Field. Tulsa (7-3) opens the tournament against Utah State (0-10) at 1:30 p.m. Friday, and plays the host and 6th-ranked Texas (12-0) at 6:30 p.m. The Hurricane plays Lamar (3-4) at 1 p.m. Saturday, before the tournament breaks into bracket play Saturday afternoon and Sunday.
Tulsa hits .233 (62-for-266) with 28 RBI, 32 runs, six doubles, two triples and four home runs, and had a .316 slugging percentage and a .292 on-base percentage with 21 walks. The Hurricane has a 2.54 team ERA with 60 strikeouts, 32 walks, 51 hits, 32 runs and 25 earned runs allowed, and has a .202 opponent batting average. Tulsa is led in hitting by junior Haley Henshaw, who hits .379 (11-for-29) with 11 RBI, two home runs, three runs, a .586 slugging percentage and a .419 on-base percentage. Senior Lacey Middlebrooks hits .375 (9-for-24) with five runs, five RBI, a homer, two doubles, a .583 slugging percentage and a .444 OBP. Junior third baseman Jill Barrett, hits .355 (11-for-31) with three runs, three RBI, a .387 slugging percentage and a .394 OBP. Senior center fielder Caitlin Everett hits .303 (10-for-33) with five runs, a .333 slugging percentage and a .324 OBP. Senior shortstop Samantha Cobb hits .267 (8-for-30) with two RBI, six runs, two triples, one double, a .433 slugging percentage and a .353 on-base percentage. In the circle, Middlebrooks is 3-1 with a 0.60 ERA in 28.0 innings, and has allowed 11 hits, five runs and two earned runs, with 10 strikeouts and 16 walks. Junior Aimee Creger is 4-0 with a 0.97 ERA in 29.0 innings, and has allowed 16 hits, five runs and four earned runs, with 40 strikeouts and nine walks. This will be the third meeting between Tulsa and Utah State. Tulsa leads the series, 2-0. The teams last met in 2010, as the Golden Hurricane won, 8-1. TU also won, 9-8, in 2008. This will be the third meeting between Tulsa and Texas. Texas leads the series, 2-0. Both of the previous games were played in Austin. The Longhorns won, 9-1, last season, and 6-1, in 2011. This will be the first meeting between Tulsa and Lamar, which re-started its program this year after 25 years with no softball.
