Softball Takes on Oklahoma WednesdayFeb. 24, 2009
TULSA, Okla. - The University of Tulsa softball team, winners of nine of their last 10 games, will take on 5th/7th ranked Oklahoma Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex. The Golden Hurricane (10-3) is coming off a 3-1 weekend in winning the Tulsa Select Festival, with victories over Louisiana-Monroe, 3-1, South Dakota State, 11-0 (5 inn.) and Creighton, 4-1. The Sooners enter the game 12-3 and ranked fifth in the country in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll and seventh in the USA Today/NFCA Division I poll. OU leads the all-time series 29-6, but the Hurricane and Sooners have split the last two season series and Tulsa has won the last two matchups in Tulsa, including a 5-3 TU win in 2008 and a 2-0 win in 2007 at the Hardesty Complex. Tulsa enters the contest with a team .281 batting average, with 58 runs scored, 88 hits, 55 RBI and 11 home runs. The team also carries a .360 on-base percentage. The pitching staff has put together a 2.41 ERA with five shutouts and has given up 56 hits, 30 runs, 28 earned, 36 walks and 93 strikeouts in 81.1 innings. Oklahoma comes into the game featuring a team .289 batting average, with 104 runs scored, 112 hits, 91 RBI, 12 homers and a team .382 on-base percentage. The Sooner pitching staff has a 2.28 ERA with three shutouts, and has given up 63 hits, 37 runs, 31 earned, 24 walks and 82 strikeouts in 95.1 innings. Leading the Golden Hurricane offense is junior right fielder Lauren Lindsay who comes into the game with a .405 batting average, 12 RBI, three home runs, a .676 slugging percentage and a .476 on-base percentage. Senior shortstop Kailey Yarmer is hitting .385 with 10 RBI, three doubles, three homers, a .692 slugging percentage and a .415 on-base percentage. In the circle, junior Jackie Lawrence leads the Hurricane with a 6-0 record and 0.94 ERA in six appearances with five starts, five complete games and one shutout. She has allowed 17 hits, five runs, all earned, 17 walks and has struck out 45 batters in 37.1 innings. Senior Katie Lee is 2-1 with a 3.39 ERA in four appearances with two no-hitters. She has given up 19 hits, 11 runs, 10 earned, six walks and struck out 22 batters in 20.2 innings. Sophomore Jordan Kinard is 2-2 with a 3.90 ERA in five appearances with four starts, four complete games and shutouts in her last two starts. She has allowed 20 hits, 14 runs, 13 earned, 13 walks and has struck out 26 batters in 23.1 innings.
