Tulsa Invitational Tournament Central

TULSA, Okla. - The 21st-ranked Tulsa softball team plays at home for the first time in the 2014 season this weekend with the Tulsa Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Collins Family Softball Complex. Inclement weather forecast for Sunday forced schedule changes, reducing the tournament to two games on Friday and two games on Saturday.

The Golden Hurricane (13-2) will play Creighton (4-6) in a doubleheader Friday beginning at 1 p.m., and play Northwestern State (7-7) at noon Saturday. Creighton and Northwestern State will play at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The Hurricane is ranked No. 21 in the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25, and No. 22 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 polls this week.

Tulsa hits .294 (117-for-398) with 58 RBI, 65 runs, 17 doubles and seven home runs, and has a .394 slugging percentage and a .379 on-base percentage with 50 walks. The Hurricane has a 1.05 team ERA with 106 strikeouts, 42 walks, 57 hits, 20 runs and 16 earned runs allowed, and has a .156 opponent batting average.

Tulsa is led in hitting by senior shortstop Jill Barrett, who hits .423 (22-for-52) with nine runs scored, eight RBI, a .519 slugging percentage and a .483 OBP. Senior center fielder Cierra Hughes hits .343 (12-for-35) with six runs, three doubles, 10 RBI, a .429 slugging percentage and a .442 OBP. Junior catcher Erica Sampson hits .341 (14-for-41) with 15 RBI, 10 runs, two doubles, four homers, a .683 slugging and a .491 OBP. Senior second baseman Shelby Blanton hits .340 (17-for-50) with 11 runs, three doubles and a .365 OBP. Freshman DP Jill Roye hits .323 (10-for-31) with two runs, eight RBI and a .400 OBP.

In the circle, senior Aimee Creger is 6-0 with a 1.24 ERA in 45.0 innings, and has allowed 21 hits, eight runs and eight earned runs, with 70 strikeouts and 29 walks. Junior Bailey Erwin is 4-0 with a 0.88 ERA in 31.2 innings with two saves, and is allowing 16 hits, six runs and four earned runs with 19 strikeouts and four walks. Sophomore Caitlin Sill is 3-2 with a 0.93 ERA in 30.0 innings, allowing 20 hits, six runs and four earned runs, with 17 strikeouts and nine walks.

Tulsa and Creighton have played 20 times. Creighton leads the series 14-6. The Bluejays won the last meeting, 4-3 last season in Arlington, Texas. The Golden Hurricane has won four of the last six meetings, including wins in 2006 (7-0), 2007 (3-1), 2009 (4-1) and 2011 (5-3). Creighton won 7-2 in 2007. TU is 4-2 vs. the Bluejays since 2006.

Tulsa and Northwestern State have played three times. Northwestern State leads the series, 2-1. The teams last met in 2001, a 7-3 win by the Demons. The Hurricane won the first meeting, 6-3 in 1996, and NSU won 11-1 in 1997.
