Softball Opens Conference USA Play against UCF Saturday

TULSA, Okla. - The University of Tulsa softball team opens the 2009 Conference USA schedule by playing host to UCF this weekend, beginning with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday, at the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex.
The third game of the series is scheduled for noon Sunday. Live stats of all three games will be available via Gametracker and live streaming video will be available to members of the Tulsa Hurricane All-Access package at www.TulsaHurricane.com.
Tulsa enters the weekend at 12-5, having won 11 of its last 14 games. The Hurricane went 2-1 last week, losing at OU, 5-3, after winning two at the Ole Miss Red & Blue Classic. TU beat Mississippi Valley State, 6-1, Friday and USC Upstate, 5-2, on Saturday.
The Hurricane enters the series against UCF with a .274 team batting average, with 75 runs scored, 115 hits, 69 RBI and 14 home runs. The team also carries a .364 on-base percentage and a .433 slugging percentage. The pitching staff has put together a 2.58 ERA with five shutouts and has given up 79 hits, 45 runs - 40 earned - 42 walks and 111 strikeouts in 108.1 innings.
UCF (14-9) is hitting .283 as a team, with 101 runs scored, 165 hits, 88 RBI and 10 home runs. The Knights carry a .346 team OBP and a .427 slugging percentage. The pitching staff has a 3.19 ERA with three shutouts and has allowed 164 hits, 90 runs - 72 earned - 61 walks and 96 strikeouts in 158.0 innings.
Individually, Tulsa is led by junior right fielder Lauren Lindsay with a .431 batting average (22-for-51) with 16 RBI, 13 runs scored, five home runs, three doubles, a .784 slugging percentage and a .508 on-base percentage. Senior shortstop Kailey Yarmer has a .365 average (19-for-52) with 12 RBI, 10 runs scored, three doubles and three homers.
In the circle, Junior Jackie Lawrence is 7-1 with a 1.50 ERA and five shutouts, allowing 29 hits and 14 runs - 11 earned - with 20 walks and 54 strikeouts in 51.1 innings. Sophomore Jordan Kinard is 3-2 with a 3.13 ERA with two shutouts, and has allowed 23 hits, 15 runs - 14 earned - walked 15 and struck out 34 in 31.1 innings. Senior Katie Lee is 2-2 with a 4.09 ERA and she threw a pair of no-hitters. She has allowed 28 hits, 16 runs - 15 earned - with seven walks and 23 strikeouts in 25.2 innings.
UCF is led by first baseman Breanne Javier who has a .377 average with 14 RBI and 13 runs scored, plus a homer and six doubles. Catcher Abby McClain is hitting .375 with 12 RBI, 15 runs scored, two homers and three doubles. Pitcher Ashleigh Cole, is 8-2 leads the team with a 2.05 ERA, and has allowed 62 hits, 29 runs - 22 earned - 21 walks and has 51 K's in 75.0 innings. Krisitna DeMello is 4-4 with a 2.88 ERA and has allowed 54 hits, 30 runs - 21 earned - 25 walks and has 34 strikeouts in 51.0 innings.
This is the 10th meeting between Tulsa and UCF; UCF leads the series 6-4. The series dates to 2006 when both schools joined Conference USA. Tulsa swept UCF in Orlando that first year on its way to the C-USA regular season and tournament championships. In 2007, Tulsa won the second game of the series, sandwiched between two UCF wins, and the Knights clipped TU in the C-USA tournament. UCF won all three games against Tulsa last season in Orlando.
