TULSA, Okla. - The 20th-ranked Tulsa softball team will play at the Courtyard Marriott Tournament, hosted by Oklahoma, Friday through Sunday at Marita Hynes Field in Norman, Okla. Inclement weather forecast for Saturday forced schedule changes, and TU will play twice on Friday and once each on Saturday and Sunday.

The No. 20/21 Golden Hurricane (16-2) will play Liberty (2-15) at 11 a.m. and Western Illinois (10-3) at 1:15 p.m. on Friday, No. 13/19 Oklahoma (14-6) at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, and Liberty at 10 a.m. Sunday. TU was originally scheduled to play Western Illinois on Saturday, and game times on Saturday were moved up to earlier in the day.

No. 18 Softball Falls to No. 1 Oklahoma, 3-1
Samantha Cobb hit her seventh home run of the season for No. 18 Tulsa, but the Golden Hurricane fell to No. 1 Oklahoma, 3-1, in front of a crowd of 849 Thursday evening at the Collins Family Softball Complex.


The Hurricane is ranked No. 20 in the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25, and No. 21 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 polls this week.

Tulsa hits .309 (146-for-473) with 76 RBI, 85 runs, 23 doubles, three triples and nine home runs, and has a .427 slugging percentage and a .390 on-base percentage with 58 walks. The Hurricane has a 0.90 team ERA with 135 strikeouts, 45 walks, 61 hits, 20 runs and 16 earned runs allowed, and has a .144 opponent batting average.

Tulsa is led in hitting by senior shortstop Jill Barrett, who has a .484 (30-for-62) batting average with 15 runs scored, nine RBI, a .661 slugging percentage and a .529 OBP. Senior center fielder Cierra Hughes hits .372 (16-for-43) with six runs, three doubles, 12 RBI, a .442 slugging percentage and a .462 OBP. Junior catcher Erica Sampson hits .347 (17-for-49) with 15 RBI, 12 runs, two doubles, four homers, a .633 slugging and a .492 OBP. Senior second baseman Shelby Blanton hits .322 (19-for-59) with 16 runs, three doubles and a .344 OBP. Freshman DP Jill Roye hits .351 (13-for-37) with two runs, 13 RBI and a .429 OBP.

In the circle, senior Aimee Creger is 7-0 with a 1.08 ERA in 52.0 innings, and has allowed 21 hits, eight runs and eight earned runs, with 87 strikeouts and 30 walks. Junior Bailey Erwin is 5-0 with a 0.72 ERA in 38.2 innings with two saves, and is allowing 18 hits, six runs and four earned runs with 26 strikeouts and four walks. Sophomore Caitlin Sill is 4-2 with a 0.82 ERA in 34.0 innings, allowing 22 hits, six runs and four earned runs, with 22 strikeouts and 11 walks.

This will be the first meeting between Tulsa and Liberty. This will be the seventh meeting between Tulsa and Western Illinois. Tulsa leads the series 4-3. The Golden Hurricane won the last two meetings, 6-1 and 8-2 in Tulsa in 2007. The Leathernecks last won, 3-2 in 2005. This will be the 48th meeting between Tulsa and Oklahoma. Oklahoma leads the series 37-10. The Sooners won last season in Tulsa 3-1, and 7-1 in the NCAA Regional in 2012. The Golden Hurricane last won in the NCAA Regional in 2011, 4-3, before OU won the deciding game 5-0. Tulsa is 5-12 against OU since 2006.
