TULSA, Okla. - The 17th-ranked Tulsa softball team travels to Springfield, Mo., Wednesday for a 4 p.m. contest at Missouri State at Killian Stadium.

The Golden Hurricane (28-3) has won 10 in a row and 16 of its last 17 games. The Bears (18-9) have won seven of their last nine games, but had its weekend series at Loyola-Illinois canceled due to weather. Live stats will be available on www.TulsaHurricane.com.

No. 24 Softball Powers Past Missouri State, 8-0
Haley Henshaw's grand slam in the fifth inning kick-started the No. 24-ranked Tulsa softball team to an 8-0 (5 inn.) triumph over Missouri State on Wednesday at the Collins Family Softball Complex.


Tulsa is ranked No. 17 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 poll and No. 18 in the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 poll, released March 25.

Tulsa hits .340 (283-for-833) with 171 RBI, 193 runs, 48 doubles, eight triples and 25 home runs, and has a .507 slugging percentage and a .419 on-base percentage with 107 walks. The Hurricane has a 1.20 team ERA with 237 strikeouts, 67 walks, 126 hits, 42 runs and 35 earned runs allowed, and has a .176 opponent batting average.

Tulsa is led in hitting by senior shortstop Jill Barrett, who has a .491 (54-for-110) batting average with 28 runs scored, 19 RBI, a .636 slugging percentage and a .525 OBP. Freshman DP Jill Roye hits .385 (25-for-65) with nine runs, 22 RBI, a .569 slugging and a .467 OBP. Senior center fielder Cierra Hughes hits .365 (27-for-74) with 20 runs, four doubles, 18 RBI, a .514 slugging percentage and a .473 OBP. Senior right fielder Haley Henshaw hits .355 (27-for-76) with 23 RBI, 15 runs, seven doubles, three homers, a .566 slugging and a .437 OBP. Junior catcher Erica Sampson hits .345 (30-for-87) with 21 RBI, 25 runs, five doubles, six homers, a .609 slugging and a .491 OBP. Third baseman Maggie Withee hits .338 (24-for-71) with 17 runs scored, two triples, four RBI and a .394 slugging percentage.

 

 

In the circle, senior Aimee Creger is 12-1 with a 1.20 ERA in 87.2 innings, and has allowed 42 hits, 17 runs and 15 earned runs, with 153 strikeouts and 48 walks. Junior Bailey Erwin is 9-0 with a 1.00 ERA in 63.0 innings with four saves, and is allowing 48 hits, 12 runs and nine earned runs with 43 strikeouts and seven walks. Sophomore Caitlin Sill is 7-2 with a 1.45 ERA in 53.0 innings, allowing 36 hits, 13 runs and 11 earned runs, with 41 strikeouts and 12 walks.

This will be the 45th meeting between Tulsa and Missouri State. Missouri State leads the series 24-20. The Golden Hurricane has won nine in a row in the series, dating back to 2007. TU won the last two meetings in Springfield by one run - 4-3 in 2010 and 2-1 in 2012. The Bears last won in the series in 2006, taking 5-2 and 2-1 victories in Springfield.
