TULSA, Okla. - The 16th-ranked Tulsa softball team hits the road in conference play for the first time in three weeks when it plays a three-game Conference USA series at UAB this weekend.

The Golden Hurricane (34-3, 9-0 C-USA) has won 16 in a row and 22 of its last 23 games. The Blazers (22-15, 8-4 C-USA) have won 10 of their last 12 games, including five of their last six in league play. TU is in first play in C-USA, while UAB sits tied for second with North Texas. No. 17 Softball Drops Series Finale to UAB, 1-0
Aimee Creger struck out 12 batters, but a sixth-inning solo home run by UAB's Kristen McGrath was the difference as the Golden Hurricane fell to the Blazers, 1-0, in the Conference USA series finale Sunday afternoon at the Collins Family Softball Complex.


Tulsa is ranked No. 16 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 and No. 17 the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 and polls released April 1.

Tulsa hits .352 (353-for-1003) with 222 RBI, 248 runs, 58 doubles, 11 triples and 35 home runs, and has a .536 slugging percentage and a .427 on-base percentage with 126 walks. The Hurricane has a 1.13 team ERA with 284 strikeouts, 78 walks, 145 hits, 47 runs and 39 earned runs allowed, and has a .171 opponent batting average.

Tulsa is led in hitting by senior shortstop Jill Barrett, who has a .500 (65-for-130) batting average with 35 runs scored, 22 RBI, a .646 slugging percentage and a .539 OBP. Freshman DP Jill Roye hits .395 (30-for-76) with 12 runs, 26 RBI, a .605 slugging and a .477 OBP. Senior center fielder Cierra Hughes hits .378 (34-for-90) with 27 runs, five doubles, two triples, three homers, 24 RBI, a .578 slugging percentage and a .486 OBP. Senior right fielder Haley Henshaw is hitting .359 (33-for-92) with 26 RBI, 20 runs, seven doubles, four homers, a .565 slugging and a .433 OBP. Junior catcher Erica Sampson hits .358 (38-for-106) with 26 RBI, 31 runs, seven doubles, seven homers, 21 walks, a .623 slugging and a .489 OBP. Freshman third baseman Maggie Withee is hitting .353 (30-for-85) with 22 runs, 10 RBI, two doubles, three triples and a .402 OBP.

 

 

In the circle, senior Aimee Creger is 15-1 with a 0.99 ERA in 105.2 innings, and has allowed 44 hits, 17 runs and 15 earned runs, with 195 strikeouts and 50 walks. Junior Bailey Erwin is 10-0 with a 0.98 ERA in 71.1 innings with four saves, and is allowing 57 hits, 14 runs and 10 earned runs with 46 strikeouts and nine walks. Sophomore Caitlin Sill is 9-2 with a 1.52 ERA in 64.2 innings, allowing 44 hits, 16 runs and 14 earned runs, with 43 strikeouts and 19 walks.

Tulsa and UAB have played 28 times. Tulsa leads the series 17-11. The teams have each won their series on the road the last two years. The Golden Hurricane won two of three games in Birmingham in 2012, and the Blazers won two of three in Tulsa in 2013. TU won two of three games at UAB in 2010, and swept the Blazers at home in 2007 and 2009. UAB won two of three games at home in 2006 and 2008. TU is 6-6 all-time vs. the Blazers in Birmingham.
