TULSA, Okla. - The 17th-ranked Tulsa softball team takes on Conference USA rival UAB in a big three-game series Saturday and Sunday at the Collins Family Softball Complex.

Tulsa (31-9-1, 11-1 C-USA) and UAB (24-9, 11-1 C-USA) play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, and a single game at noon Sunday. The Golden Hurricane and Blazers are tied at the top of the C-USA standings with matching 11-1 records. Live stats and live video for all three games will be available at www.TulsaHurricane.com. The game will also be broadcast on 88.7 FM HD3.

SOFTBALL WINS C-USA CHAMPIONSHIP
Junior Lacey Middlebrooks hit a three-run home run and pitched a one-hit shutout to lead Tulsa to the Conference USA championship with a 3-0 win at UAB Sunday at UAB Softball Field.


The Hurricane is ranked No. 17 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 and No. 21 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Top 25 polls.

Tulsa hits .289 (328-for-1136) with 192 RBI, 212 runs, 51 doubles, 11 triples and 25 home runs, and has a .419 slugging percentage and a .366 on-base percentage with 124 walks. The Hurricane has a 1.86 team ERA with 281 strikeouts, 124 walks, 205 hits, 97 runs and 73 earned runs allowed, and has a .206 opponent batting average.

Tulsa is led in hitting by junior third baseman Jill Barrett, who hits .400 (56-for-140) with 34 runs scored, 24 RBI, a .514 slugging percentage and a .437 OBP. Senior center fielder Caitlin Everett hits .365 (54-for-148) with 37 runs, a .399 slugging percentage and a .401 OBP. Senior Lacey Middlebrooks hits .337 (35-for-104) with 16 runs, 24 RBI, six home runs, 11 doubles, a .615 slugging percentage and a .465 OBP. Junior Haley Henshaw hits .333 (38-for-114) with 31 RBI, two home runs, 14 runs, a .439 slugging percentage and a .377 on-base percentage. Senior shortstop Samantha Cobb hits .308 (41-for-133) with 37 RBI, 30 runs, seven homers, four triples, four doubles, a .556 slugging percentage and a .384 on-base percentage.

In the circle, junior Aimee Creger is 16-3 with a 1.00 ERA in 119.1 innings, and has allowed 79 hits, 21 runs and 17 earned runs, with 176 strikeouts and 40 walks. Middlebrooks is 13-3 with a 1.54 ERA in 113.1 innings, and has allowed 74 hits, 38 runs and 25 earned runs, with 81 strikeouts and 66 walks.

UAB hits .270 (229-for-848) and has scored 137 runs with 124 RBI, 22 doubles, seven triples and 28 home runs, a .412 slugging percentage and a .369 on-base percentage. The Blazers pitching staff carries a 2.03 ERA with nine shutouts and 280 strikeouts in 223.2 innings, allowing 152 hits, 89 runs, 65 earned runs, 79 walks and a .188 opponent batting average. Centerfielder Whitney Fletcher leads the team with a .360 batting average, 466 on-base percentage and 11 extra base hits, and has 23 RBI and a .616 slugging percentage. Catcher Anna Kimbrell leads the team with eight home runs, and a .629 slugging percentage, and has 18 RBI and a .243 batting average. DP/first baseman Kristen McGrath leads UAB with 25 RBI, and has seven homers and a .233 batting average.

Tulsa and UAB have played 25 times. Tulsa leads the series, 16-9. The Golden Hurricane has won two of three games in each of the last three series - 2010 and 2012 in Birmingham, and 2011 in Tulsa. TU also swept in Tulsa in 2009, and won both games played in Tulsa in 2007. The Hurricane is 7-2 all-time against the Blazers in Tulsa.
