Softball's Lindsay Earns C-USA Hitter of the Week Honor
April 12, 2010
TULSA, Okla. - Tulsa senior right fielder Lauren Lindsay was named the Conference USA Softball co-Hitter of the Week for the second time this season after hitting .571 with 10 RBI and six extra base hits in six games last week, the league office announced Monday.
Lindsay went 8-for-14, slugged 1.286, had a .700 on-base percentage, blasted two home runs, smashed four doubles and walked six times during the week. She accounted for 14 of Tulsa's 22 runs, including 10 of the Hurricane's 19 RBI in six games. In the process, she broke the C-USA career doubles record, and now has 65 for her career. Lindsay also moved into a tie for second place on the C-USA all-time home run list.
"Lauren is in the midst of having a great season," Tulsa head coach John Bargfeldt said. "She has been very consistent for us, and she is such an integral part of our team's offense. She is already probably the best career and single-season hitter that has come through here."
Lindsay went 3-for-3 in Tulsa's 7-0 win over Wichita State Tuesday. In that game, she drove in four runs and scored two more with a home run and a double. In game two against the Shockers, she singled and walked twice, scoring once.
In the weekend series at Southern Miss, Lindsay went 4-for-8 with six RBI, three runs, four doubles and a home run. In game one Saturday, she doubled in a run and walked. In the second game, she went 3-for-4 with a homer and two doubles, drove in five of Tulsa's nine runs, and scored three runs.
Lindsay has set six career school records, not counting categories such as batting average, slugging percentage and on-base percentage, all three of which she is on pace to shatter. She is also within reach of at least three more conference career records. She has also already set the TU single season home runs record, and is two homers from tying the single season C-USA record.
Tulsa plays host to #11 Oklahoma State Wednesday at 6 p.m. The Golden Hurricane then plays Houston in a three-game C-USA series Saturday and Sunday. The doubleheader Saturday will be televised by CBS College Sports and will begin at 1 p.m. The series will conclude with a single game Sunday at noon.
Tickets for all Tulsa softball home games are $6 for adults and $4 for youth. Tickets can be purchased at the TU Athletics Ticket Office, by calling 631-GoTU (4688), or at the gate.
