TULSA, Okla. - The 24th-ranked Tulsa softball team concludes the regular season at home this weekend with a three-game Conference USA series against Southern Miss at the Collins Family Softball Complex.

Tulsa (38-13-1, 16-5 C-USA) and Southern Miss (14-37, 4-15 C-USA) play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday and a single game at noon Sunday. Live stats and live video for all three games will be available at www.TulsaHurricane.com.

TU Shuts Out Southern Miss, 6-0, to Advance in C-USA Tourney
Skylar Swanson went 3-for-3 with four RBI and Aimee Creger pitched a complete-game shutout to lead Tulsa to a 6-0 win over Southern Miss in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Conference USA Championship Thursday afternoon at UAB Softball Field.


The Saturday doubleheader will be Tulsa's annual Pink Day, as the Hurricane is honoring former TU student Katrina Larson, who passed away Dec. 17, 2012, after a two-year battle with breast cancer. TU will hold a silent auction during the games, featuring a team-autographed pink jersey, ball and cap. Donations will also be accepted. Proceeds will be donated to the Katrina Lynn Larson Pink Ribbon Memorial. Larson was a nursing student at The University of Tulsa, and a proud member of the Epsilon Gamma Chapter of Chi Omega.

The Hurricane, which is ranked No. 24 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Top 25 poll, will honor its four seniors - Cassidy Bowen, Samantha Cobb, Caitlin Everett and Lacey Middlebrooks - in a ceremony following the game Sunday.

Tulsa hits .296 (426-for-1440) with 245 RBI, 270 runs, 70 doubles, 12 triples and 32 home runs, and has a .428 slugging percentage and a .374 on-base percentage with 164 walks. The Hurricane has a 1.83 team ERA with 363 strikeouts, 157 walks, 255 hits, 118 runs and 90 earned runs allowed, and has a .204 opponent batting average.

Tulsa is led in hitting by junior third baseman Jill Barrett, who hits .404 (72-for-178) with 38 runs scored, 27 RBI, a .494 slugging percentage and a .448 OBP. Cobb hits .341 (58-for-170) with 44 RBI, 38 runs, eight homers, four triples, seven doubles, a .571 slugging percentage and a .415 on-base percentage. Junior Haley Henshaw hits .340 (50-for-147) with 43 RBI, five home runs, seven doubles, 26 runs, a .517 slugging percentage and a .388 on-base percentage. Everett hits .317 (60-for-189) with 40 runs, a .365 slugging percentage and a .350 OBP. Middlebrooks hits .298 (37-for-124) with 20 runs, 25 RBI, six home runs, 11 doubles, 27 walks, a .532 slugging percentage and a .439 OBP.

 

 

In the circle, junior Aimee Creger is 22-5 with a 1.03 ERA in 169.2 innings, and has allowed 107 hits, 30 runs and 25 earned runs, with 249 strikeouts and 61 walks. Middlebrooks is 13-3 with a 1.65 ERA in 119.0 innings, and has allowed 80 hits, 44 runs and 28 earned runs, with 85 strikeouts and 75 walks.

Southern Miss hits .217 (278-for-1282) with 147 runs, 127 RBI, 48 doubles, five triples, 20 home runs, a .309 slugging percentage, 157 walks and a .311 on-base percentage. The Golden Eagles' pitchers carry a 4.36 ERA, with 161 strikeouts and 403 hits, 279 runs, 207 earned runs and 159 walks allowed, and a .289 opponent batting average.

Tulsa and Southern Miss have played 25 times. Tulsa leads the series, 19-6. The Golden Hurricane has won seven in a row in the series, including four games last season when TU swept the league series and defeated the Golden Eagles in the C-USA Tournament in 2012. TU won all three games at home in 2011. Southern Miss last defeated Tulsa in 2010, taking the third game of the series in Hattiesburg.
