TULSA, Okla. - Junior Cassidy Bowen and sophomore Jill Barrett were selected to the 2012 Conference USA Softball All-Academic Team, the league office announced Tuesday.

Bowen, a catcher from Claremore, Okla., carries a 3.62 grade point average as a business-finance, pre-med major. She is a two-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll, and a Tulsa Dean's List and Athletic Director's List selection. She is having her best season both behind the plate and in the batter's box for the Hurricane. An exceptional defensive catcher, she has caught 21 runners stealing, picked off five runners, and allowed just four passed balls all season. She is hitting .245 with 18 RBI, six doubles, three home runs and 19 runs scored. This is the first C-USA All-Academic selection for Bowen.

Barrett, a third baseman from Greenwood, Ark., carries a 3.64 grade point average in exercise and sports science, and education. She has been a member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and the Tulsa Dean's List and Athletic Director's List. She carried a 25-game hitting streak this season, and her .438 batting average ranks 14th in the nation. She has hit safely in 43 of 50 games, and ranks C-USA leaders in batting average, hits (74), runs (41) and OBP (.484). A very good defensive third baseman, she has .963 fielding percentage and committed just five errors all season at the hot corner. This is the first C-USA All-Academic selection for Barrett.

The top-seeded Golden Hurricane (38-12, 19-5 C-USA) opens the C-USA Championship Thursday with a quarterfinal matchup against eighth-seeded Southern Miss (13-33, 4-19 C-USA) at 11 a.m. at UAB Softball Field.
