BOCA RATON, Fla. - Tulsa senior Jill Barrett and junior Julie Kernen were named to the 2014 Conference USA Softball All-Academic Team, the league office announced Thursday.

This is the third straight C-USA All-Academic Team honor for Barrett, while Kernen is on the All-Academic Team for the second consecutive year. Barrett has compiled a 3.65 GPA majoring in exercise and sports science, while also working on minors in deaf education and speech pathology. Kernen has carried a 3.96 GPA majoring in speech language pathology.

Barrett, a shortstop from Greenwood, Ark., is a four-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and a two-time Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree. She was named the 2014 C-USA Player of the Year on Wednesday, and leads the conference in batting average (.453) and hits (87), ranking 12th and first in the nation, respectively, in each category. She has totaled 51 runs, 26 RBI, seven doubles, four triples, three home runs, a .578 slugging percentage and a .498 on-base percentage. She hit .405 with 25 runs and 11 RBI in league play.

Kernen is a first baseman from St. Louis, Mo., who has been recognized for three years as a C-USA Academic Medalist and on the Commissioner's Honor Roll. She has also been recognized on the Tulsa President's List with a 4.0 GPA over a semester. She was named to the All-C-USA first team on Wednesday, after she hit .423 with 28 RBI, 13 runs, seven doubles, six home runs, a .904 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage in league play. Overall, Kernen has hit .316 with 39 RBI, 16 doubles, seven homers, and 23 runs scored in 53 games.

The Golden Hurricane opens the C-USA Championship this afternoon against Charlotte at 3 p.m. CT.
