Norman, Oklahoma - Tulsa and Oklahoma won their opening games at the NCAA Regional on Friday and will face each other this afternoon at 1:00 pm at Marita Hynes Field at the OU Softball Complex. The game will be aired live in the state of Oklahoma on COX Cable-Channel 3/703HD.

Tulsa, ranked 25th nationally, comes into the game with an overall 42-12 record, while the #4-ranked Sooners have posted a 46-8 record this season. Tulsa advanced to the winners bracket game with a 9-7 11 inning victory over Oregon State on Friday, while Oklahoma pummeled Lehigh 19-3 in five innings. The Sooners scored 13 runs in the second inning to break the game open.

This is the first meeting of the season between the two teams and the fifth time TU and OU have faced each other in the NCAA postseason. The teams have split those postseason games 2-2.

The winner will advance to Sunday's Regional final at 1:00 pm in the double elimination tournament, with a game to follow at 3:30 pm if necessary. The loser of this contest will play the winner of Saturday's 3:30 pm game between Oregon State-Lehigh game at 6:30 pm on Saturday.

TULSA ADVANCES... Senior Jessica Stoelke's two-run double in the 11th inning proved to be the game winning hit as the No. 25-ranked Tulsa Golden Hurricane claimed a 9-7 victory over the 24th-ranked Oregon State Beavers in the first round of the NCAA Regional on Friday night . . . Tulsa went into the bottom of the seventh inning with a 7-3 lead, but OSU knotted the score to push it into extra innings . . . Tulsa's longest game of the year lasted 3 hours and 32 minutes finishing at 8:32 pm.



THE SERIES... This is the 46th meeting between Tulsa and Oklahoma . . . the Sooners lead the overall series 35-10 . . . the two teams met five times last year, as OU held a 3-2 advantage . . . the series is tied 2-2 in the NCAA Tournament . . . the last OU win came last year in the regional finals second game, 5-0, on May 22, 2011, while Tulsa's last win in the series came on the same day in the first game, 4-3, to force a second game for the regional title.

TULSA IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT... Tulsa is making its fifth appearance the NCAA Softball Championships in 2012; all have come in the last seven years . . . TU also played in the NCAA Regional in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2011 . . . with Friday's 9-7 win over Oregon State, the Hurricane improved its overall NCAA record to 6-8 . . . Tulsa has won its' opening game in each of its last three tournament appearance . . . the 9-7 win over Oregon State was the same score of last year's opening win over Missouri State.

TU TRIO EARN ALL-REGION HONORS... Tulsa sophomore Jill Barrett and juniors Lacey Middlebrooks and Caitlin Everett were named to the 2012 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I All-Midwest Region Teams on Thursday . . . Barrett and Middlebrooks were selected to the Midwest Region first team, while Everett was a second team selection . . . Barrett was a first-team selection at third base, Middlebrooks made the first-team as a utility player/pitcher, and Everett was a second-team pick in the outfield . . . this is the second all-region honor for Everett and first for both Barrett and Middlebrooks.

EVERETT SETS SINGLE-SEASON RECORD IN WIN OVER OSU...In yesterday's win over Oregon State, Caitlin Everett's base-clearing triple gave the Hurricane a 3-0 lead in the second inning . . . that triple was the sixth of the season for the Tulsa junior, which is a new school single-season record . . . Everett now has 10 career triples to also hold the school's all-time record for triples, bettering the 8 triples set by Stacy Walkingstick (2002-05).

SIBLING RIVALRY... On May 6, TU pitcher/DP Lacey Middlebrooks hit a three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning - and pitched a one-hitter - to lead Tulsa to a 3-0 win over UAB as it claimed the Conference USA regular season championship . . . at the same time she hit her home run, her brother, Boston Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks, recently called up from Pawtucket, hit a grand slam over the Green Monster at Fenway Park in Boston . . . it was the first major league home run for the rookie, who was playing his third game in the majors . . . video time-analysis determined Lacey's home run was hit at approximately 2:17 p.m. CT, while Will's was hit a 3:18.19 p.m. ET (2:18.19 p.m. CT) - nearly one minute of each other.

TULSA IMPROVES TO 10-8 vs. RPI TOP-50... With the 9-7 win over Oregon State, rated 24th in the RPI rankings, Tulsa improved to 10-8 against the RPI top-50 . . . Tulsa's wins in the top-50 have come against #24 Oregon State (1-0), #40 UAB (2-1) #41 UCF (2-1), #42 Houston (3-1) and #47 Arkansas (2-0) . . . the top-50 losses have come against #5 Texas (0-1), #8 Texas A&M (0-1), #12 UL-Lafayette (0-1) and #38 Oklahoma State (0-2).

TULSA SETS SEASON HITS RECORD... With 16 hits in the NCAA Regional opener against Oregon State, Tulsa set a new school record for total hits . . . the Hurricane entered the game with 449 hits on the season, three shy of the school record 452 hits set in 2009 . . . Tulsa now has 465 hits this season in 1,491 at-bats . . . Tulsa's 1,491 at-bats this year is just the 12th most at-bats in the 20-year history of the program, while Tulsa's current .312 batting average is the best in school history . . . the previous-best was .294 on 1,537 at-bats in the 2009 season.

BETTER THAN THE AVERAGE... In Tulsa's first 13 NCAA postseason tournament games, the Hurricane hit .225 (76-of-338) . . . in its first game of the 2012 NCAA postseason, Tulsa batted .333 (16-of-48) . . . in those first 13 games, Tulsa also averaged 3.4 runs per game . . . Tulsa scored nine runs in its first game this postseason . . . in its six NCAA victories, Tulsa has averaged 7.3 runs per game (44 runs), while limiting the opposition to 3.3 runs (20 runs).
