2000 Season Notes
Smith sets school mark for stolen bases in a season With three stolen bases against Hawaii, Jessie Smith broke her own school record for stolen bases in a season with 17. Last season she established a new single-season record with 16 steals, also setting a new career mark. Hurricane Break School mark for Strikeouts The current TU pitching staff crushed the school record for strikeouts in a season this year. With 265 strikeouts so far this season, the TU trio has surpassed the 202 strikeouts set during the 1996 season. Moving up the career Charts Two seniors for the Golden Hurricane, Dawn Reed (Skiatook, Okla.) and Tiffany Redding (Sand Springs, Okla.) are moving up the career charts, both defensive and offensive for TU. Reed needs only seven hits to break the school record for hits in a career. She currently has 171 hits in her three-plus seasons at TU. She already owns the highest marks for at-bats (575) and runs (69). Her 28 doubles are the third highest on the chart for that category. She is also third in extra-base hits with 30 for her career and tied for second in walks at 30. Redding is fourth in career hits (133), fourth in at-bats (527), fifth in RBIs (43) and second in walks (33). Defensively, both are among the leaders. Reed has set the school mark for assists in a career (446) and is tied for third in total chances (726). Redding is fourth in chances (732) and second in assists (359). Those two are not the only ones making noise in the record books. Junior Kari Curtis and sophomore Jessie Smith continue to battle for the stolen base mark. Smith currently has a slim 33-29 lead heading into this week's competition. Sophomore pitchers Angela Wedlake (Sperry, Okla.) and Jenny Magill (Broken Arrow, Okla.) are also making waves. Wedlake has moved to second all-time in strikeouts (171), while Magill is third (164). Junior Krystel Markwardt (Berryhill, Okla.) is fourth (155). Markwardt is first in career wins (24), third in appearances (84) and third in innings pitched (326.1). Magill is fourth in appearances (64), fourth in wins (13) and second in saves (6). Wedlake is currently third in wins (16) as well. All three current TU pitchers are on the career ERA chart, with Wedlake first (2.23), Magill second (2.27) and Markwardt third (2.81). Magill has seven career shutouts, tying her for first on the career chart, while Wedlake is second (6) and Markwardt is next (5). Not to be outdone, senior catcher Kerri Hasselbar (Bixby, Okla.) is fifth on the career fielding percentage chart with a .973 fielding percentage. Wedlake has taken over the fourth spot with a .982 percentage in just under two seasons. Markwardt is sixth on the list with a .971 fielding percentage.
