TULSA, Okla. - The University of Tulsa softball team opens its fall exhibition season with a game at 5 p.m. Friday against Northern Oklahoma College at the Collins Family Softball Complex.

Friday's contest is the first of eight exhibition games the Golden Hurricane will play during September and October. TU will play four regional Division I opponents and six home games, including a doubleheader against Oklahoma State on Oct. 12 at the Collins Family Softball Complex.

Tulsa travels to Springfield, Mo., on Sept. 28 for a pair of games against Central Arkansas and Missouri State. TU plays UCA at 3 p.m. and Missouri State at 5 p.m. On Oct. 11, the Hurricane plays host to Butler Community College at 5 p.m., before taking on OSU the following day. TU closes the fall session with a doubleheader against Labette Community College on Oct. 19 beginning at noon.

John Bargfeldt is entering his ninth season leading the Golden Hurricane. Through eight seasons, he has compiled an overall record of 299-160-1 (.650), and has led TU to a 129-53 (.709) mark in Conference USA play, four regular season C-USA Championships, three tournament titles and six NCAA Tournament appearances.

Tulsa returns 11 players from the 2013 team that posted a 42-16-1 record and advanced to the NCAA Regionals for the third straight year and sixth time overall. The Golden Hurricane also welcomed eight newcomers, including three Division I transfers and five freshmen.

Among the returners are All-American and reigning Conference USA Pitcher of the Year senior Aimee Creger and All-C-USA first-team performer senior third baseman Jill Barrett. Senior outfielder Haley Henshaw was a second-team All-C-USA selection, and sophomore catcher/infielder Catherine Horner was a C-USA All-Freshman Team selection last season.

Senior second baseman/outfielder Shelby Blanton, senior outfielder Cierra Hughes, senior utility player Emma Horton, junior first baseman Julie Kernen, sophomore outfielder Jodi Edmiston, sophomore pitcher Caitlin Sill and sophomore infielder Jocelyn Sheffield all return for the Hurricane in 2014.

The TU roster includes more players and depth this season than in any other year in Bargfeldt's tenure. After losing the experience and record-setting production of four seniors last season, the Hurricane reloaded with eight new players. Among the newcomers are three transfers: sophomore infielder Kaitlin Allen, a Tulsa native from Florida State, junior pitcher Bailey Erwin, a Claremore native who came from Missouri, and junior catcher Erica Sampson, a Tahlequah native who came from Oklahoma.

Included in the freshman class are Briana and Brittany Walker, from Fort Worth Texas. Briana is an infielder, while her twin Brittany can play both infield and outfield. Maddie and Maggie Withee came to Tulsa from Arlington, Texas. Maddie is an outfielder and catcher, and Maggie is an infielder. TU also added pitcher Jill Roye from McAlester.
