Softball Wins Twice SaturdayOct. 6, 2009
TULSA, Okla. - Continuing its run through the fall exhibition season, The University of Tulsa softball team won twice on Saturday, defeating Rogers State, 11-2, and North Central Texas College, 3-0, at the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex. The Golden Hurricane bombarded Rogers State with five runs in the first inning, one in each of the second and third innings, and four more in the sixth, while the Hillcats earned one run in the second and sixth innings. Junior Jordan Kinard struck out 10 batters and scattered five hits, allowing two runs and five walks in a complete game effort. Freshman third baseman Cassidy Bowen went 3-for-4 with a double, four RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore left fielder Jessica Stoelke was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and run. Junior right fielder Lauren Menke and freshman shortstop Samantha Cobb both earned a pair of hits and scored twice, and Menke doubled and drove in a run. Senior first baseman Vanessa Vice, sophomore second baseman Skylar Swanson and freshman center fielder Caitlin Everett each got a hit and drove in a run, and Everett stole a base. In the afternoon game against North Central Texas College, senior pitcher Jackie Lawrence threw a one-hit shutout, with four strikeouts and three walks. The Golden Hurricane scored one run in each of the third, fifth and sixth innings. Cobb led the offense, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and stole a base. Everett also drove in a run, and Stoelke singled, while junior designated player Ashlee Lubniewski and freshman outfielder Keri Leach each doubled.
Tuesday's game against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M was postponed and re-scheduled for Oct. 21.
