Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa softball team added to its ranks with three players signing National Letters of Intent during the early signing period. Pitcher Jackie Lawrence, catcher Christian Timmons and first baseman Vanessa Vice selected TU to continue their educations as announced by Tulsa Head Coach John Bargfeldt.
A native of Indianapolis, Lawrence will graduate from Culver Academy. She has been Culver's only pitcher of record for the past three years, with record of 71-11. As a junior, she earned third-team All-State honors. The Eagles have won two sectional championships with Lawrence in the circle as well, including in 2005 when CA finished 22-2.
Timmons will graduate from Westmoore High School in May. The Oklahoma City, Okla., native earned All-State, while batting .323 with 20 doubles and 51 runs batted in for the Jaguars. Also playing third base, Timmons posted a .378 batting average and a .577 slugging percentage for her summer team the Oklahoma Commotion.
Vice hales from Sachse, Texas. The Garland High School product helped led the Owls to a Class 5A State Runner-Up finish. The first baseman helped lead GHS to a 31-1-1 record as a junior with a .515 batting average. She posted 12 doubles with a pair of home runs and 29 runs batted in. She also earned all-area second-team honors as well as being named to the State Tournament all-tournament team.
Tulsa opens the season on Feb. 10 at the Getterman Classic, hosted by Baylor. The Golden Hurricane face NCAA Regional qualifiers Wichita State and Baylor on the first day of the three-day event. TU finished the 2005 campaign with a 31-30 record, winning its final nine contests of the season.
