TU Women's Tennis defeats BYU and Oral Roberts 7-0 Saturday

TULSA, Okla. - The University of Tulsa women's tennis team defeated BYU 7-0 and Oral Roberts 7-0 on Saturday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center to begin the team competition of the 2014 spring schedule.
The Golden Hurricane started off with a match against BYU at 9:30 a.m. and won the doubles point after a hard fought battle. Samantha Vickers/Isaura Enrique defeated Megan Sheehan-Dizon 6-2, but the other two doubles came down to the wire. Renata Kuricova/Yelena Nemchen defeated Morgan Anderson/Toby Miclat 7-5 after trailing 5-4.
TU's doubles team of Maria Sant'Anna/Rongrong Leenabanchong and BYU's doubles team of Mayci Jones/Nicolette Tran was tied at six apiece with the tie-breaker tied at one.
No. 47 Samantha Vickers clinched the match with the fourth point with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Mayci Jones.
After dropping the first set 7-5, Saana Saarteinen won the final two sets 6-2 and 10-4 in the tie-breaker set, followed by Maria Sant'Anna's 6-4, 6-3 win over Morgan Anderson, who is riding a five-match winning streak.
No. 46 Yelena Nemchen finished the match with a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (7) over Nicolette Tran.
No. 28 Tulsa 7, Oral Roberts 0 The Golden Hurricane returned to the court for a 4 p.m. showdown with cross-town rival Oral Roberts. TU defeated ORU 7-0 and won the doubles point with wins from Vickers/Enrique, 6-1, Sant'Anna/Leenabanchong, 6-0, and Kuricova/Nemchen 6-0.
Four singles matches finished around the same time with Kuricova winning the first singles match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Ximena Puentes, followed by Carol Benito's 6-0, 6-0 win over Nika Munoz, Cichon's 6-0, 6-0 win over Melanie Marlin and Leenabanchong's 6-1, 6-1 win over Mairead Cleary. Kuricova and Cichon are riding a five-match winning streak, while Benito is riding a six-match winning streak.
Saarteinen defeated Marizaane Bouwer, 6-0, 6-1 and No. 48 Samantha Vickers finished the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Haley Martin. Vickers is riding a nine-match winning streak, while Saarteinen is riding a five-match winning streak. Vickers moved up to tie fourth place with 98 career singles win and moved up to seventh place in career doubles wins with 77.
The Golden Hurricane travels to Ann Arbor, Mich., for the ITA Kick-off Weekend. TU faces Yale at 3 p.m. on Saturday and either Michigan or Virginia Tech on Sunday.
