TULSA, Okla. -

The No. 28-ranked Tulsa women's tennis squad swept South Alabama at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Hurricane improved to 9-4 on the season, and holds a 6-0 ledger at home this year.


The Golden Hurricane swept the doubles point, as Maria Sant'Anna and Renata Kuricova defeated Sibela Gajer and Paula Sanchez at No. 3 doubles. TU claimed the point as Tulsa's No. 2 doubles tandem of Saana Saarteinen and Michelle Farley defeated Cinta Maria Papke and Mary Angela Martin, 8-2. Moments later, Samantha Vickers and Isaura Enrqiue defeated Emily Newton and Michaela Meszarosova, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles. Vickers and Enrique, ranked No. 19 in the country, picked up their ninth win of the season.




Tulsa took a 2-0 lead as Vickers, ranked No. 59 in singles play, defeated Meszarosova in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Vickers holds a 10-1 record in singles play this season.


Saarteinen earned a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at No. 3 singles over Sanchez, and minutes later Carol Benito sealed the win with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Sibela Gajer at No. 6 singles.


Sant'Anna earned a 6-1, 6-4 win against Papke at No. 4 singles, and Kuricova defeated USA's Martin 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.


Farley completed the sweep for the Hurricane, as the senior rallied from a 4-1 first set deficit to defeat USA's Newton, 6-4, 6-2.


The Golden Hurricane will go on the road next weekend, facing SMU on Friday, March 8, and North Texas on Saturday, March 9.
