HOUSTON -

The No. 24-ranked Tulsa women's tennis squad earned a 4-0 victory over Marshall during the quarterfinals of the 2013 Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship on Friday at the John E. Hoff Courts.

"We have played Marshall a lot the past few years, and they have always been a tough match for us. Their head coach John Mercer always has them well prepared, and I told our girls that before the match. We started slow in the doubles and had to fight back overcoming a few match point situations. As a whole, we had a few first round jitters, but we were able to overcome them once we got into singles play."

The Golden Hurricane (18-5) will face No. 33 Memphis in a rematch of last week's Senior Day win for the Golden Hurricane. This marks the third time this season that TU has matched up against UM The Hurricane trumped the Tigers, 4-3, in the consolation round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Jan. 27, and on April 14, when TU defeated Memphis, 4-2, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The win marked TU's ninth straight victory.

"We are looking forward to our match tomorrow against Memphis," Orford stated. "We've faced them twice already this year, and this should be another close battle."

Tulsa started off slow in doubles action, but rallied to take the point from Marshall. No. 21-ranked Isaura Enrique and Samantha Vickers overcame a 2-6 deficit to defeat Dominika Zapranza and Kara Kucin, 9-7 on Court 1. TU clinched the point with a 9-8 win at No. 3 doubles by junior Maria Sant'Anna and freshman Renata Kuricova. The TU tandem were down 4-1 to Marshall's Karlyn Timko and Dana Oppinger, but took eight of the next 12 points to win the match.

In singles, Kuricova gave TU a 2-0 advantage with a 6-0, 6-0, triumph over Timko at No. 6 singles.

Vickers, ranked No. 14 in singles, extended her winning streak to 16 matches with a 6-2, 6-0, win over Zapranza on Court 1.

Sant'Anna clinched the match for TU, defeating Kucin, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5 singles.

Matches at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4singles were halted due to the tournament format. On Court 2, Enrique was up 6-4, 5-1 against Dana Oppinger. On Court 3, Michelle Farley was down 7-5, 1-0, to Maria Voscekova. Saana Saarteinen was lost her first set 3-6 to Ellie Ball, but rallied to take the second set 6-2 before the match was stopped.
