NORFOLK, Va. - No. 1 seed University of Tulsa women's tennis team fell to No. 2 seed Rice 4-2 after trailing 3-0 in the Conference USA Championship match at Folkes Stevens Tennis Center on Sunday.

The tennis match was played inside again due to weather conditions in the Norfolk area.

Rice (17-6) won the doubles point after wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 position. It was only the fifth time that the Golden Hurricane (17-5) has lost the doubles point in 21 matches played this season.

The Owls extended its lead to 3-0 after a wins at the No. 1 and No. 6 singles position. But sophomore Saana Saarteinen got Tulsa on the board with a 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 4 singles position to cut Rice's lead to 3-1.

Senior Maria Sant'Anna pulled the Golden Hurricane within a point, 3-2, after a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win at the No. 5 singles position, but the Owls clinched the match with a win at the No. 3 singles position.

Freshman Rongrong Leenabanchong won the first set 7-6 (12) and was leading 6-5 before the match ended over No. 101 Dominique Harmath.

The Golden Hurricane lost for the first time as the No. 1 seed in the C-USA Championship. Tulsa has posted a 14-1 tournament record as the No. 1 seed and has won 13 of the last 15 tournament matches. Overall, the Hurricane has posted a 22-4 (.846) tournament record and has played in eight championship matches in nine season with the C-USA.
