Women's Tennis Dominates in Day Two

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa women's tennis team won three of four doubles matches and were victorious in six of its nine singles matches, Friday afternoon at Rainbow Wahine Invite at the University of Hawai`i Tennis Complex. Teams featured were Tulsa, Cal State Northridge, UC Irvine, Hawai`i Pacific and host Hawai`i.
Tulsa six singles wins came from Thalia Diaz-Barriga, Alexandra Kichoutkin, Marta Marcinkowska, Rebecca Row, Agostina Santoro and Carla Zabaleta. Barriga and Row defeated members of the Hawai`i team, Chloe Bihag (6-1, 6-1) and Brittany Beswick (6-0, 6-0). While both Kichoutkin and Marcinkowska's wins came against Cal State Northridge players, Kankey Koichumanova (6-1, 6-2) and Kristy Fournell (ret.). TU also had two win against Hawai`i Pacific opponents, Santoro defeated Tinka Mihova (6-4, 6-0) and Zabaleta beat Nina Mihova (6-1, 6-2). All of Tulsa's three defeats came against members of UC Irvine: Jenna Webster fell to Brooke Bartlett (6-3, 6-3); Julie Westfall lost to Ali Borowicz (5-7, 6-4, 1-0(8)); and Jie Zeng fell to Clare Fermin (6-1, 6-3).
In doubles action, the pair of Westfall/Webster defeated Hawai`i Pacific's Tinka Mihova/Lauren Shin (9-8(6)). The duo of Kichoutkin/Zabaleta beat Heidi Kaloi/Ali Borowicz of UC Irvine (8-2). Lastly, the team of Marcinkowska/Barriga defeated Hawai`i's Sophie Kobuch/Chloe Bihag (8-5). In Tulsa's lone doubles defeat, the pair of Zeng/Row fell to Clare Fermin/Brooke Bartlett of UC Irvine.
