NORMAN, Okla. - Two University of Tulsa women's tennis players, Saana Saartienen and Yelena Nemchen, advanced to the round of 16 at the USTA/ITA Central Region on Saturday.

Saartienen defeated Dimitra Stavriankou of UMKC 6-3, 6-4 in the first round and No. 9-16 Natallia Pintusava of Minnesota 7-5, 7-6 (1) in the second round.

Nemchen, ranked No. 7, defeated Satjaporn Mahjaroenkul of Wichita State 6-2, 6-2 in the first round and Karyn Guttormsen of Oklahoma State 6-1, 6-0 in the second round.

Saartienen and Nemchen face each other in the round of 16 on Sunday morning.

Rongrong Leenabanchong defeated Haley Martin of Oral Roberts 6-1, 6-0 in the first round, but fell to No. 8 Whitney Ritchie of Oklahoma 6-1, 6-0 in the second round.

Maria Sant'Anna defeated Monique Krutak of SIUE 6-2, 6-2 in the first round, but fell to No. 9-16 Shelby Talcott of Iowa 6-2, 6-4 in the second round.

Four TU players fell in the first round on Saturday as No. 2 seed Samantha Vickers fell to Tereza Brichacova of Minnesota 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, Isaura Enrique fell to No. 9-16 Megan McCray of Oklahoma State 6-2, 6-0, Marcelina Cichon fell to Morgan Chumney of Oklahoma and Renata Kuricova fell to Kelli Hine of Missouri 6-4, 6-3.

But the four won their match the main draw consolation bracket as Vickers defeated Iasmin Rosa of South Dakota State 6-1, 6-1, Kuricova defeated Ksenia Pronina of Iowa State 6-0, 6-4, Enrique defeated Julia Courter of Minnesota 6-4, 6-4 and Cichon defeated Lisa Anderson of Nebraska 7-5, 6-0.
