6 Move Into Round of 16 at Regional Championship

The highlight of the day came from freshman Isaura Enrique, who had to maneuver her way through qualifying Thursday and is now the last qualifier remaining in the field. She began her day with a 6-4, 6-3 upset victory over Wichita State's Lutfiana Budiharto, who was seeded No. 5 in the tournament and is ranked No. 101 in the nation. Enrique then moved into the Round of 16 with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Stephanie Hollis of Saint Louis.
She also remains alive in the Main Doubles Draw after winning two matches with senior teammate Caroline Beaulieu. They defeated Hollis and Mia Elmore 8-3 in the first round, and then took down Budiharto and Carla Venticinque 8-4 in the second round. Sophomore Sam Vickers, seeded fourth and ranked No. 89 in the nation, cruised through her first two matches, defeating Maria Macedo of Iowa State 6-1, 6-2 and dropping Ira Khatsko of Oral Roberts 6-1, 6-0. Senior Anastasia Erofeeva, seeded seventh in the field and ranked No. 122 in the nation, defeated both Leyla Simmons of Oklahoma State 6-1, 6-0 and Doron Muravnik of Minnesota 6-4, 6-2. Senior Bonny Davidson advanced to the second round with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Anita Lee of Southern Illinois, but Davidson fell 6-2, 6-1 to Sonja Molnar of Iowa. Molnar is seeded second in the tournament and is ranked No. 65 in the NCAA. Senior Ewa Szatkowska, junior Michelle Farley and sophomore Maria Sant'Anna all lost their opening-round matches and will play in the consolation bracket. Three of Tulsa's four doubles teams also advanced to the Round of 16. Erofeeva and Szatkowska, seeded fifth in the field, received a bye into the second round and defeated Peta Maree Lancaster and Mia Lancaster of Oklahoma 8-5. Davidson and Vickers also received a first-round bye and dropped Brooke Urzendowski and Madeline Jolly 8-1 in the second round. Farley and Sant'Anna fell 8-5 to Melanie Delsart and Korey Love of Southern Illinois in the second round. The University of Tulsa will be back in action beginning with doubles play at 8 a.m. Saturday morning at Case Tennis Center.
