Erofeeva, Vickers Reach Quarters at Central Region Championships

TULSA, Okla. - Senior Anastasia Erofeeva and sophomore Sam Vickers reached the quarterfinals of the singles Main Draw at the 2011 USTA/ITA Central Region Championships Saturday at Case Tennis Center. Vickers, ranked No. 89 in the nation and seeded fourth in the tournament, cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory in her match with Nicole Long of Oklahoma. Erofeeva, seeded seventh in the tourney and ranked No. 122 in the NCAA, dropped her first set, but rebounded to take down Whitney Ritchie of Oklahoma 6-7 (3-7), 6-3, 6-2. Isaura Enrique saw her brilliant run end in the Round of 16. The freshman member of the Golden Hurricane was the last remaining qualifier, and she fell 6-0, 6-0 to Mary Weatherholt of Nebraska. Vickers will face Weatherholt in the quarterfinals Sunday at 10:30 a.m., while Erofeeva is set to face Sonja Molnar of Iowa at 10:30 a.m. Molnar is seeded second and ranked No. 65 in the nation. Erofeeva also remains alive in doubles play with senior teammate Ewa Szatkowska. The fifth-seeded tandem dropped Weatherholt and Patricia Veresova 8-5 in the Round of 16, and then defeated Molnar and Shelby Talcott 9-7 in the quarterfinals. Molnar and Talcott defeated Enrique and senior Caroline Beaulieu 8-2 in the Round of 16. Erofeeva and Szatkowska will meet Meghan Blevins and Mary Jeremiah of Oklahoma State at 8:30 a.m. on Court 6 indoors.
