No. 23 Women's Tennis Hosts Two Ranked Opponents This Weekend

TULSA, Okla. - The University of Tulsa women's tennis team hosts two ranked opponents this weekend at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
No. 23 Golden Hurricane (7-1) faces No. 64 North Texas (2-4) at 2 p.m. on Friday and No. 52 Kansas State (5-1) at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
Under head coach Dean Orford, the Hurricane has posted a perfect 8-0 record against North Texas and leads the series against Kansas State 6-2.
Kansas State has one singles player nationally ranked, Petra Niedermayerova at No. 55 and one doubles team nationally ranked of Amina St. Hill and Niedermayerova at No. 59.
The Golden Hurricane holds a 48-match home winning streak at the Case Tennis Center and is 3-0 at home this season. The last match the Hurricane lost was Feb. 17, 2010, when the blue and gold dropped a narrow 4-3 to in-state rival Oklahoma.
The Hurricane has posted a 110-11 (.909) record at home under Orford in his eight-plus seasons.
The Golden Hurricane is riding a season-high five match winning streak, including three wins over ranked opponents.
Two Golden Hurricane athletes are riding a nine-match winning streak or better. Freshman Marcelina Cichon is on an 11-match winning streak and has posted a perfect 8-0 record at the No. 6 singles position this season, while sophomore Renata Kuricova is on a nine-match winning streak and has posted a perfect 5-0 record this season, including a 4-0 record at the No. 5 singles position.
Senior Samantha Vickers enters the weekend tied for the sixth most in school history with 79 career singles wins. Vickers, who is ranked No. 69, has been ranked in the International Tennis Association poll in 22 of the last 23 ITA polls.
The Golden Hurricane moved up three spots from No. 26 to No. 23 in the ITA poll released on Feb. 18.
In eight matches this season, the Hurricane has only lost the doubles point twice to host No. 31 Oklahoma State and host No. 30 Purdue.
The Golden Hurricane travels to Houston, Texas next weekend to face Houston on Saturday, March 1 at 10 a.m. and Rice on Sunday, March 2 at noon.
