March 26, 2013
IRVING, Texas -
Junior Samantha Vickers was named Conference USA Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced today.
Vickers, ranked No. 22 in the nation, earned a pair of wins against ranked foes last week during the Golden Hurricane's trip to California. She began the week with a three-set win, 5-7, 6-4, 10-6, over No. 76 Andrea Ka of San Francisco. Vickers followed that performance with another impressive three-set victory, 6-7, 7-6, 6-2, over No. 18 ranked Jenny Jullien of Saint Mary's College.
"Samantha had a great week picking up two wins against two ranked and very good opponents," commented Head Coach Dean Orford. "The win against Saint Mary's Jenny Jullien was very good as it was the deciding match against the No. 18 player in the nation, and she raised her game in that match to help our squad win."
Vickers is now riding a 10-match winning streak in singles play, and has eight triumphs over ranked foes this year. This marks her sixth career conference accolade.
The Tulsa women's tennis team, which is ranked No. 29 nation, will face No. 16 Notre Dame on Saturday in a noon tilt at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
