IRVING, Texas - The University of Tulsa women's tennis athlete Renata Kuricova was named the Conference USA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week, announced by the league on Tuesday.

Kuricova earned her first career weekly award as she went 1-0 at the No. 2 singles position and 1-0 at the No. 1 doubles position with freshman Marcelina Cichon last week in a 5-2 win over No. 38 Memphis.

The sophomore lost the first 6-0 to Carolina Wegner, but battled back to win 6-4 in the second set and 6-4 in the third set to give the Golden Hurricane a 3-2 lead.

Kuricova and Cichon paired up to defeat Skylar Kuykendall and Liza Tymchenko 8-1 to give Tulsa a lead in the doubles point. The Golden Hurricane went on to win the doubles point for an early 1-0 lead.

The Zilina, Slovakia native has posted a 22-9 singles record this season, including a 9-5 record in dual competition. Kuricova has recorded 40-17 (.702) career singles record, including a 21-7 (.759) career singles record in dual competition.

Kuricova and Cichon has posted a 12-1 record in dual competition this season with a 2-1 record at the No. 1 position, 2-0 at the No. 2 position and an 8-0 record at the No. 3 position.

No. 19 Golden Hurricane received the No. 1 seed in the Conference USA Championships in Norfolk, Va., starting on Wednesday. Tulsa received a double-bye into the quarterfinals and faces the winner of USTA-Middle Tennessee/Florida Atlantic on Friday at 1 p.m.
