IRVING, Texas -

Tulsa junior Samantha Vickers was named Conference USA Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced today.

Vickers is currently riding a 15-match winning streak in singles competition. She owns a 29-3 record this season, including a 19-1 record during the spring campaign. Her 29 wins are already tied for the ninth most in school history.

In a 4-2 win over then No. 28 Memphis on Sunday, she teamed up with Isaura Enrique for an 8-4 win over No. 65 Kelly Gray and Courtney Collins at No. 1 doubles. The triumph marked the sixth win in a row for the duo and their ninth win against a ranked opponent this year. Vickers also earned a 6-2, 6-3, win against Collins as she picked up her 10th win of the year against a ranked opponent. She started the weekend off with a 6-1, 6-2, singles win against Katarina Dikosavljevic of UT-Arlington Friday as the Golden Hurricane swept the Mavericks.

This is Vickers' fourth weekly honor of the season and seventh for her career. This also marks the fifth time TU has earned the award this year, as Enrique was named Player of the Week on April 2.

“Sam continues to improve as the semester goes along,” commented Head Coach Dean Orford. “She is on her way to a fantastic year with 29 wins already in singles play. We have some team goals and individual goals for her, and it is exciting to see how she will conclude the campaign. I firmly believe she is one of the best singles and doubles players in the country.”

Vickers and the rest of the Hurricane squad will compete this weekend in the 2013 Conference USA Women’s Tennis Championship in Houston, Texas. TU will play at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 19, against the winner of the Marshall/Houston match on Thursday.
